I inadvertently used the wrong BA companion voucher by using seatspy to find a companion seat and booking through their link. I wrongly assumed that it used my older voucher which expires in June 2022. Instead the booking was made using my newer voucher which expires in June 2024.
I am trying to have this changed with BA but couldn’t get hold of them on the phone.
Is it possible to: change the booking so that the newer voucher is used OR to get a refund so that I could get the voucher back? The website has no option for refund except to get a voucher.BA have been known to substitute companion vouchers but it’s not a standard feature. Always worth a call but be prepared for a negative response.
If the route has a lot of availability you could Just cancel for a FTV which will result in the companion voucher and all Avios and fees being refunded anyway. I’m guessing not an option since you used Seat Spy for availability.
Alternatively phone BA and ask if they can issue a FTV and rebook while you are on the phone
Is it possible the newer voucher was used because it was the only one which unlocked the increased availability “I” booking class seats?
But agree definitely worth trying to get BA to switch it for you to preserve the newer one.
Hasn’t the FTV option gone now? If you cancel you should get everything back minus £35pp fee but I don’t know how long it’s taking for avios and vouchers to reappear these days. As AJA says, there have been reports of BA agreeing and refusing to swap the 241 depending on which CSA you get.
Wasn’t it also reported this week that Exec Club isn’t even taking calls at the moment? Twitter might be able to help but they do take several days to respond. But yes – there might not be availability with your older voucher anyway – what destination are you travelling to?
You still have the older voucher so you could check if there’s availability and rebook if you have enough avios, then sort out the unwanted booking at your leisure.

Thanks all. I managed to speak to a customer service person after waiting for almost an hour on the phone and got a refund.
I now booked the same flight with my older voucher but it cost me £70 more because of the cancellation fee. I got my Avios and voucher today.I got business class return flights to Boston in May. Boston is the only American destination with loads of reward flights available before June.
Well done. I think £70 was worth paying to use the other voucher.
Yes – worth it to retain the new voucher with the extra availability. Worth knowing about SeatSpy as well – maybe Rob/Rhys could highlight this?
BOS does have good availability – I got a last minute CW seat yesterday when cash prices are bonkers.
