Hi guys
I’ve just booked with Virgin Atlantic for two people with two credit card vouchers
It’s for LHR to Barbados return in Peak season (April 2025).
It’s 55k points return in premium for one passenger, then I used a companion voucher to get the second person point free, and then a second voucher to upgrade one way to upper class. I’ve been charged 95k points though. Does anyone know why?
Was this over the phone, presumably? Did you ask the agent?
You get charged 50% of the points required when using the voucher as a 241 in UC, unless you have a certain level of Virgin status, I’m wondering if the agent applied the voucher as a 241 somehow instead of an upgrade?
that was my initial though but 55k plus 50% of 135k = 122,500
I did ask and she said something about not being able to use both vouchers together in the way I wrote above. She then came back, used both vouchers with a points cost of 95k, which I wasn’t really sure about
@davefl is really hot on the Virgin vouchers so hopefully he can shed some light on it!
Peak is 67500 UC, 27500 for PE. So it should be 27500×2 return using one voucher, for 2 = 55000
You then get charged the difference 50% of the difference as a red member between UC and PE x 2 /2 which cancels out, so 67500-27500=40000 *2 then /2 = 40000
So that’s correct at 95000
Hi Dave, thank you for this
Just checking – for upgrades do you still have to pay 50% of the points? I thought for using a voucher as an upgrade voucher there was no additional charges in terms of points?
I.e. one voucher was used to get my companion in; and the second voucher was used to upgrade both our tickets ONE way
The alternative way to calculate it is 27500 for PE, + 50% of the upgrade 67500-27500=40000/2=20000 so 47500 in total and then nothing for the companion. So they’ve not applied the 2nd voucher as a companion, just charged you the same again.
To be honest Virgin’s IT is only second to BA in it’s crapness and I’ve given up on them. Try https://flywith.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/contact-us.html click flying club and book a flight using points and ask them

Strangely they have used both credit card vouchers. But also, I have just managed to upgrade one of us from premium to upper class (as one reward seat became available) for 7400 points… so if the other seat becomes available it’ll have been a total of 110k points which is what I was expecting for UC both ways…
