-
Morning, quick question – has anybody managed to buy a voucher or a gift card using the dine abroad credit with the platinum card but from within the UK? I’ve seen a few threads about it before and understand it needs to go through the point of sale system for the restaurant, but wondered if anyone has any tips for how to actually do this in the real world? Thanks in advance, I’m new to all this.
I got a very trusted relative in the overseas location to add my card to their phone wallet.
Once added, they went in to the restaurant branch, purchased the gift card in person and paid using their phone wallet

If you want to share your card details with me I’ll happily use your credit when I’m next overseas in a couple of weeks…
On a serious note, does anyone know if vouchers purchased online now on The Raffles Singapore website would trigger the £100 cashback? We are due the be in Singapore in July 2025 and hope to go there for afternoon tea
@binotsen I tried 2 years ago The Raffles in Singapore it did not work. I had to cancel it and refund came after few days
Only place works is Japan. I managed to make some reservations with last year’s credits then just keep change time until my visit 6 months later.

Was this using pocket concierge?

Yes, you can even book for someone else
Hi @DonLee do you know if I can use this years credit to book for a restaurant in Tokyo in January with pocket concierge – thanks

@lollipopkiki
Of course you can as long as the restaurant is taking instant booing. Most of them takes reservation within 3 monthsAm I missing something but according to the dining map there’s no restaurants in Japan?? Am I missing an obvious trick?
Just had a trip fall through so also trying to find a last minute use of my overseas credit. Would rather Europe but I’m off to japan next year so it’s another possible option
Yes I am. I didn’t realise there were some caveats to the map, just seen pocket concierge on Amex’s website. Something to investigate this weekend

Check here:
https://www.americanexpress.com/en-gb/benefits/diningbenefit/Since I’ve not been able to use this year’s credit, hoping to use the above for my trip in May. If I make a Pocket Concierge booking now for within the next 3 months, can that booking be later rearranged to move it to May?
I’ve seen references both to the fact that you can just keep amending the booking, but also that doing so refunds then re-charges which would defeat the object.
I’d also like to know the answer to this, have seen conflicting reports on it
There’s one in NYC that just worked for me a few days ago.
I don’t want to post the name, but it should be fairly easy to find given that —
1. I’ve provided the location (New York City)
2. There’s a link to buy gift cards on the website and, when you click, you’ll get taken to a toasttab.com website. This is the same POS as the restaurant uses to process actual orders (which is presumably why buying gift cards in this way works)There’s one in NYC that just worked for me a few days ago.

I have trawled the restaurants available and found there are multiple using toasttab. Could you possibly give one more clue please?

How long is the gift card valid till?I had a look last night and a handful of the restaurants link to toastab when selecting vouchers. One of which had some extremely punchy prices for salads and bottles of wine which was a bit offputting! Im planning an NYC trip in Spring 2026 but am very wary re taking a punt without any guarantee the voucher is valid > 12 months…..

To be honest, I think *any* restaurant processing gift cards through toasttab would probably be OK. Some US Amex cards have a similar restaurant credit for Resy (different set of restaurants to choose from) and I’ve used those credits at a bunch of restaurants buying GCs through various toasttab portals (I’m a US expat, so I’ve got some US Amex cards as well. This trick has worked well to use those credits given that I’m not in the US every month!).
But, to answer your question and to give one more hint about the specific transaction my prior post alluded to. What’s the opposite of black?
Has anybody heard similar for any restaurant in either Paris or Amsterdam at all?

How long is the gift card valid till?Just had an email response from the restaurant
“Our gift cards do not expire, so you will be able to use it when you come in”
Yippee!!

Thanks for this tip. Unfortunately I’m getting a “card not authorized” error when checking out. Presumably because it asks for a zip code and it’s a UK card… Any ideas on how to get around this?
