An Amex representative has told me that because this offer is only valid for flights departing from the UK, it would not work on a return flight departing from the UK and instead would only work on one way flights.
Maybe it’s just me but this seems odd. Does anyone have experience using offers like this in the past and whether they worked on return bookings departing from the UK and arriving back in the UK?

Yes, all fine.
Absolutely works for a return flight booking that originates from the U.K.
It won’t work for one that doesn’t start outside the U.K.
