Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Star Alliance miles accreditation after cancelled flight

    Hi all,

I had two long-haul flights on two separate Star Alliance carriers get cancelled last month, with me getting put onto non-star alliance flights to get home. I tried inputing my details with the original boarding passes on Turkish Airlines’ “claim missing miles” function on their page, but got errors, which appear to happen to Star Alliance flight requests anyway. I have found a way to do it via ‘feedback’, but I was wondering, am I mistaken in that I should be able to claim for miles on my originally ticketed route?

This is certainly how it works with BA – you claim for the original routing and get the correct number of Avios and Tier Points added manually. Would be surprised if TK didn’t do the same.

Thanks, the first response I got was ‘I would not get any miles because the flight I ended up taking is not a Star Alliance carrier’. I’ve tried again and will hope for a different answer, but this could be an issue of the ‘professionalism’ of the airline, and that I may have better luck trying with United Airlines, where I credit those that for some reason don’t give any miles with TK.

Had no problems claiming Miles&More from Brussels Airlines earlier this year after they cancelled my flight and rebooked me on BA.

I am not sure but I don’t think Turkish Airlines offers Original Routing Credit. Their policy if they re-route you from the original ticket onto other Star Alliance airlines is you earn the miles for the flight(s) you actually fly. Not sure what happens if you get re-routed onto flights with another Alliance such as Oneworld but I suspect that doesn’t earn anything in Turkish’s scheme either.
