Get a free night after two stays when you join Marriott Rewards

Marriott Rewards is currently offering a very interesting deal for new members – a free night after just two stays.

The good news is that you have up to 150 days to complete the two stays.   You have all of the month you enrol plus a further 120 days after the end of that month.

More good news is that ALL of the Marriott brands count – Marriott, Courtyard, EDITION, Autograph, Renaissance, Protea, Residence Inn, Ritz-Carlton, AC Hotels etc.

The link to sign up is here.

There is one piece of bad news.  The free night can only be redeemed at a Category 1-5 Marriott Rewards hotel.  To be fair to Marriott, 80% of their properties globally fall in Category 1-5 – it is just that all of the high profile ones do not.  There is nothing in London below Category 7, for instance.

The Marriott in Northampton – a Category 4 hotel, pictured above – is the sort of place you will be spending your free night.

However, it is wrong to look a gift horse in the mouth.  If you have some Marriot stays coming up it is worth joining.  You may want to sign-up (the link is here) in the name of your partner if you already have a Marriott account and they don’t – or risk opening a new account for yourself at a different address.

  • Brian says:

The Marriott Royal in Bristol is category 5 – it’s a lovely hotel in a great location. Definitely worth using a free night voucher there.

  • Matthew says:

I wonder how long the promotion will run for as I have two planned paid stays in Dec this year so will need to wait until July to enrol!

  • George says:

After registration I got this (haven’t been a Marriott member before): ‘You are now a Marriott Rewards member, but we were unable to process your registration. Please call Customer Service…’

So I got a membership number, called them, they didn’t seem to know about this promotion, and I hang up after waiting for 6-7 minutes when they asked for a second to check my account. I’ll try again later.

    • Ned1968 says:

I just used the link, tried joining and have the same error message – has anyone successfully joined and registered for this promotion?

      • George says:

Managed to talk to them on the phone, they told me it’s going to be tracked, and 2 stays will trigger the free night. Just checked the details of the offer, it also says:
        – Join Marriott Rewards and be automatically registered to earn your free night certificate

So I hope it would go through, but I didn’t see anything in My Promotions as Louise said.

  • Louise says:

I signed up to this in Feb and the offer appears in my account under my offers. Already stayed one night and due to make my second stay in May so would be good to know what others think the best hotels are to redeem the free night at

  • Mo-mo says:

On a related note I joined marriott rewards last year and completed 3 night stay at Courtyard.

A few days ago received a letter saying I have been temporarily upgraded to Gold Elite status.

Works out good for me as have upcoming trip next month to dubai so get free room upgrade/wifi at my Ritz stay.

Is there anyway I can use this to status match airlines?

    • Rob says:

No – if you get Marriott Platinum you get matched to United Airline status though (do a search for the article)

  • Liz says:

We recently found an old Marriott reward card from way back which has only 1079 points on it. Now we have been told that these will expire next year if there is no activity on the account. We have opted to go for IHG rewards so is there any way we can transfer these points out to Avios/Virgin or anywhere else?

    • Rob says:

No, 1079 points is only worth £5 of free room anyway, give or take. Best to forget it.

  • Roger says:

Marriott recently acquired Protea Hotels in Africa, mainly in South Africa. Some Protea hotels in Cape Town and Johannesburg are already part of Marriott Rewards with the remainder due to join later this year.

I believe all are category 5 or below. 🙂

  • nerd. says:

Eugh… I spent the better part of 6 months in the Marriott Northampton a couple of years back and it was not a nice place. Location is poor (basically on a motorway junction on the edge of town) and the hotel itself was in serious need of renovation.

Staff were all very nice but there’s only so much they can do to make up for underinvestment in the property itself. Hopefully things have improved since then but I’ve not been back.
