I had to buy a new washing machine and freezer from John Lewis – total 1400 pounds.

Went to Tesco and bought 28 x 50 pound JL gift cards – the till person was a bit suspicious – she did ask the manager who was totally fine with it. She did feel the need to put them through 5 at a time – in case my card declined etc.

Went to John Lewis and the sales assistant just found it funny when i pulled out the big stack of vouchers.

Anyway 10000+ avoid better off (more if there is a tesco/ avoid promotion in the future)
    So thank you.

I have paid £550 to Boots Opticians in £25 gift cards, and they have to ring up as they do not use the main Boots system. They were fine about it.

      • Fenny says:

That’s good to know, ta. I’m due new glasses and we’ve just had a Boots optician open opposite Specsavers.

        • Gavin says:

Am off to Boots opticians Saturday for an eye test and to get the relevant lenses in the frames I bought in Korea (£10 and far better for me than anything I’ve seen in the uk)

    • JP says:

Would you have saved money buying these products from the cheapest online seller, are you just buying points or is John Lewis the cheapest ?

      • Donna says:

In my case JL was cheapest (having checked out all other options)

      • TGLoyalty says:

There is value in JL’s customer service and extended warranty offer

But ofcourse do the numbers before buying GCs

  • Roger says:

Bought multiple £100 GCs from Tesco for sign up bonus and hoping for some good Black Friday offers this year.

  • Dan says:

With the economist subscription – can you get the sign up bonus more than once? My previous subscription lapsed about 8 months ago?

    • mark2 says:

I alternate the subscriptions between me and my wife so get the Avios every time.

  • Roger says:

Good to know that it works online for JL.
So can effectively double dip plus Club card and credit card points for buying JL GC in the first place.

  • Roger says:

    Looking to buy S7.
Any ideas which is the best route to take other than JL.
Amazon had it on stock for £499 a couple of days ago but is now gone.

  • Roger says:

That is strange. Does the T&C say that using gift card will not earn Avios?

  • Mr Dee says:

Pending means the items have tracked pending confirmation and in some cases whether terms have been followed or not, in most cases using a gift card online is ok apart from select retailers who will mention it in their terms.

  • Peter K says:

The nectar Amex deal was targeted wasn’t it? Had a look and not available for me that I can see 🙁

    • Rob says:

You probably have a cookie on your PC from the Nectar site and that is why it is showing you the ad.
