Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Important dates for your diary – offers about to close which you shouldn’t miss (Oct 2016)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Here is the latest edition of our regular feature which summarises offers that are ending soon.

It pulls together the different deals mentioned on our Top Avios Points Earning Offers, Top Hotel Bonus Points Offers and Top UK Credit Card Offers pages.

I wrote about the end of the Virgin credit cards deal in a separate article today.

Miles and points offers which are about to close

One oddity is the Amex deal of 40,000 points for getting the Nectar credit card.  Whilst this was due to run until tomorrow, it has disappeared from the Nectar app and website for most (all?) of us who were targetted.  The only way of getting 40,000 points vs the usual 20,000 points is to use that link.  Has Amex pulled the deal early?

On the nectar website I don’t see the amex deal, but they do have a mastercard on show. No bonus points though, and although offers 2 nectar points per pound spent at sainsburys, only offers 1 point per five pounds elsewhere. Could this be their replacement card for the amex?

OT: Does avios.com work for you? For 2nd day in a row I cannot access it – tried different browsers, devices, etc

    • Lady London says:

I have noticed that Avios.com is particularly sensitive to adblockers. I finally solved it by switching mine off for that site. Avios.com works normally for me now.

It sometimes also gets upset if being accessed from a foreign location.

  • Mike says:

The HEX upgrade/discount codes that were emailed out recently: do we have to use the ticket by the promotion end date, or does the usual “valid for 3 months after date of travel on ticket” still apply?

  • Tracy says:

Completely O/T but I’m looking to book a cheap hotel in London for two nights in March. Choosing between Doubletree Hilton Tower of London £107 per night or Park Plaza Westminster bridge £90 per night using 241. Both will be lowest grade rooms & hoping for upgrade (gold both schemes). Which hotel would be nicer? Not sure of plans yet other than tix for Motown musical…

    • Rob says:

Probably Park Plaza (and that is a good price). More importantly you can walk to the show and back.

Very nice hotel, was there Tue and Wed last week for a conference.

      • Tracy says:

Thanks for the advice Rob, always used to stay Novotel so will be nice to try other hotels

PPWB is well worth it, esp if you get access to the exec lounge, click on my username to see pic of Big Ben from there.

          • Tracy says:

Just had a look, fab view. Was v interested in your detailed trip to Male. We have accumulated almost enough points for 7 nights. It’s a special celebration Dec 2017, so fingers crossed.

    • YL says:

Just want to say, there is usually a Hilton winter sale coming in Nov/Dec, there is always a possibility that you may be able find room with even better price. Perhaps you may want to book a refundable room for now and keep an eye on the sale.

      • Tracy says:

Booked PPWB on a 241, it’s fully refundable so will keep an eye out for a better deal

  • TGLoyalty says:

I did Heathrow rewards which posted the same day but BA took an extra couple weeks to post the 1k points

  • ADS says:

I initiated a Tesco Clubcard to Avios.com transfer just over a week ago.

I didn’t have to enter my Avios.com account number, and I thought the Clubcard blurb said that I would get an email (which I would then use to enter my Avios.com account number and complete the transfer).

Since I hadn’t received such an email, I just phoned up Clubcard. Apparently Tesco send off the details to Avios.com who use your surname and address to find your account, and credit your points – and this may take up to 28 days !

With the 21st November deadline approaching – it will be a nervous wait to see if it arrives in time for the 1,000 bonus.
