Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get £15 off a £25 Amazon purchase for ALL Amex Gold and Platinum holders

American Express sent out an interesting offer to its Gold, Green, Centurion and Platinum cardholders yesterday.

You will save £15 on your next Amazon order of £25 or more as long as you part-pay with Membership Rewards points.

If your account is set to ‘no marketing’ then you may not have received it.  Not to worry, it is still open to you.

As I wrote in this article here, you can now use your American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for Amazon orders.

The rate is poor – just 0.45p per point.  You are far better off using your points for something more valuable such as airline miles or hotel points.

The process is seamless though.  Once you have linked your Membership Rewards account to your Amazon account, you will be given the option to pay or part-pay with points every time you check out.

There is a little quirk in this deal which lets you maximise the value you get.

This is what you need to do to save £15:

If you have not already done so, link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these must all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content, including digital gift cards)

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points.  The sneaky option is to redeem just 2 points for a 1p discount.  This saves you ‘wasting’ Membership Rewards points on a low value redemption.

The offer runs until 31st January.  However, it is limited to the first 33,333 people to order so I wouldn’t leave it too late.

Thanks Rob – I figured there would be no minimum amount of points needed to be redeemed for this to work!

    Good offer this one.

  • Mike says:

Hi Rob, does this apply to Gold Business a/c as well or just personal ones?

  • Sh83 says:

Doesn’t seem to work for me.

Buying a £25 gift voucher, part pay 2MR points for 1p discount and apply code AMEX16SWP and it says “The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase”

    Anyone else getting this?

  • Dave Barron says:

Does anyone know if this is likely to be stackable with Amazon Prime Amex offer of £20 off via my Gold Card offers???

    • Genghis says:

I don’t think so as payment taken differently. Worth trying though?

      • the real harry says:

I think there’s a good chance it would stack, if you need to buy Prime, that is.

    • Dannyrado says:

I’d be interested to know if anyone managed to make this stack. If I try to buy prime it takes me to a specific page where there is no option to part pay with points..

  • Rachel says:

I can’t get this to work either, was looking for a wireless speaker by Anker. It says sold by Anker fulfilled by Amazon is that why? Anyone know?

    • Rachel says:

Thanks, as I thought, but kind of limits the offer somewhat lol

I’ll go and have a look for something else

      • Crafty says:

Buy the Bose speaker. It’s not worth skimping for the Anker. The Bose is exceptional and has paid for itself as we have now been able to sell all of our wired speakers and just use this around the house.

        • Rachel says:

Ah thanks for suggestion. Tbh we are not big music listeners and was only after something relatively cheap to connect my sons Dot too. Will wait and see if he wants to invest any of his money into a speaker instead lol

        • Lady London says:

+1 I have the Bose, and it’s excellent.

Punches far above its weight and size.

Plus the absolutely excellent Bose service if there is any problem, depending on the country either for 1 year or 2 years.

    • Frenske says:

UE Roll speaker is considered the best option in the sub £100 price range.

  • Craig Strickland says:

Bought some razor blades and shaving gel, as always thanks Rob.

  • the real harry says:

Don’t make the same mistake I made yesterday! 1 in the points box means £1 not 1 point – looks like I messed up 98 points

  • angrey says:

Doesn’t work on gift cards 🙁
