ENDING SOON: £15 off £25 Amazon purchase for ALL Amex Gold and Platinum holders

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

For the last 20+ months, Amazon has been offering an exclusive £15 discount code for Amex Gold, Green and Platinum charge card holders when they spend £25 or more.

This offer expires on 31st August.  If you haven’t taken advantage of it yet – probably because you didn’t have an Amex Gold or Platinum when it launched – this is your last chance.

(Or perhaps not your last chance.  It has been extended three times already!  You’ve only yourself to blame if you don’t buy something now and it doesn’t get extended again though!)

You will save £15 on your next Amazon order of £25 or more as long as you part-pay with Membership Rewards points from your Amex Gold or Platinum card.

Amazon

This is what to do:

If you have not already done so, link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these MUST all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content and gift cards)

You MUST select your Membership Rewards-earning Amex card as your payment card (you cannot use gift cards or any other payment source)

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points.  The sneaky option is to redeem just 2 points for a 1p discount.  This saves you ‘wasting’ MR points on a low value redemption.  You will only get 0.45p per point and you shouldn’t waste more than 2 of your valuable points on such a poor deal!  (One comment below suggests that 10 points may be required, so 5p!).

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out (the code must go in after you have selected part-payment with your Membership Rewards-registered card)

The Amazon link above (and here) pays HFP a small commission if you use it – thank you.  You pay the same regardless.

This offer is open to all UK American Express Gold, Green and Platinum cardholders.  It does not seem to work for American Express Rewards (blue) credit card holders.  Your Amazon account must have been opened before 28th October 2017 – creating a brand new Amazon account just to take advantage of this offer will not work.

  1. It can only be used once I believe.

    • That is certainly my experience.

      • The discount code can be used once per Amazon account however the same MR account can be used across multiple Amazon accounts. Well that’s my experience!

Amazon have been running an offer of an extra £5 added to your Gift Card Balance when you Top Up £25 or more in a single order on Amazon.co.uk. This also finishes at the end of this month. It might be possible to combine both of these offers (if you have not used either). Apparently this was targeted so check old emails!

Just worked for me for the second time on the same Amazon account.

Same MR account but have switched Amex Gold Charge > Platinum > Gold Credit and I guess it hasn’t realised it is the second time.

  2. Thank you for reminding us about Amazon offer! I’ve just bought another Echo dot for £19.98

  3. I have just successfully been able to use this with the Amex blue card.

  4. Thank you for the reminder. Only took a minute to link accounts and there’s always something I need from Amazon!

  5. Just a heads up, Mrs S and I swapped as primary platinum holders last month. I was able to use this offer for the second time using her primary card as the cancelled one had been removed.

  6. Louise Allen says:

Not true wrt the opening date of your account. I only got my Amex Platinum account in June this year and was successfully able to use it within a week of getting the card.
Also, Amex set up a separate rewards points account from my Gold Business card so I ended up qualifying for the 30k sign up bonus even though the call centre told me I wouldn’t get it!

  7. Peter K says:

That’s because you need to use MR points.

  8. just linked my Amex gold account to my 10 year old Amazon , ordered Echo dot and part paid with points (tried 10p and £1) but code rejected ???

    • Peter K says:

Add points for 5p, go to the next page, then add the code. That’s what I had to do Friday.

  9. Peter K says:

I accidently used it twice in my one Amazon account with a few months in between. Think it might have been because it was a different AMEX on each occasion?
It surprised me when it gave me the option and then it worked!

  10. Jumble Tales says:

I followed the instructions above (to the letter) for my 10 year old Amazon account. My Amex MR card was accepted but code was rejected.

    • snap – my Gold Amex is quite new, which I suspect is the problem

    • The issue is usually ALL items not being sold (not just delivered) by Amazon.

      • Jumble Tales says:

I checked that all the items were sold and delivered by Amazon but the code was still rejected. However Amazon were today offering £6 bonus per £30 gift card top-up at the checkout page.

      • I was trying to buy an echo dot so pretty sure that was Amazon

  11. federico says:

it works with different accounts, once you have paid just unmatch the 2 accounts 😉
