Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get £15 off a £25 Amazon purchase for ALL Amex Gold and Platinum holders

American Express sent out an interesting offer to its Gold, Green, Centurion and Platinum cardholders yesterday.

You will save £15 on your next Amazon order of £25 or more as long as you part-pay with Membership Rewards points.

If your account is set to ‘no marketing’ then you may not have received it.  Not to worry, it is still open to you.

As I wrote in this article here, you can now use your American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for Amazon orders.

The rate is poor – just 0.45p per point.  You are far better off using your points for something more valuable such as airline miles or hotel points.

The process is seamless though.  Once you have linked your Membership Rewards account to your Amazon account, you will be given the option to pay or part-pay with points every time you check out.

There is a little quirk in this deal which lets you maximise the value you get.

This is what you need to do to save £15:

If you have not already done so, link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these must all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content, including digital gift cards)

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points.  The sneaky option is to redeem just 2 points for a 1p discount.  This saves you ‘wasting’ Membership Rewards points on a low value redemption.

The offer runs until 31st January.  However, it is limited to the first 33,333 people to order so I wouldn’t leave it too late.

    Loadsabatteries.

    Cheers Rob.

    > 9. Limit one promotion code per Membership Rewards eligible card.

    Which cards does this mean?

    Does anyone have 2?

    • Rob says:

In theory you could have a Gold and Green or Gold and Platinum (Amex allows you to have 2 charge cards) – although there is no logical reason why you would.

I have a Platinum Card and a Gold Credit Card. There are separate membership rewards balances on each but on the same online account. I can get this offer to work on one but not the other (and I have tried across 2 different amazon accounts). Has anyone else managed to get this on both cards? If so, how?

Bottle of Hendrick’s Gin for £9.92 and was able to use my last 40 MR points before cancelling my Gold card!

    Thanks Rob!

  • Charlie says:

This definitely still works…Moet in gift box for £9.99 delivered (when it’s back in stock).

  • Jordan D says:

Have a £26.51 order, deducted the MR point, but for some reason the code isn’t working …

    • Charlie says:

Check you haven’t got a space after the code. Some browsers add a space when copying and pasting.

      • Jordan D says:

        Yep, checked.

Does it have to be off one item? My basket is a bit of a mixed bag of stuff. (All Amazon products, not 3rd party).

        • Charlie says:

I’m unsure, but you could test by adding one larger value item and going through to the payment page. You can always abandon the order right at the end after entering the code.

        • Genghis says:

I used it yesterday on 3 items.

Still working (11.15am) – added to the growing list of those wanting plenty of clean crockery etc! £9.99 for 180 tabs. Thanks Rob

  • Pascal says:

Wow. Works with Student Discount too (Not sure if here are a lot Prime Student members, but mine still works with the student discount). From 26 down to 8.80 😀 Thanks Rob!

    • 2002ad says:

According to the nus website the 5% student discount has ended. Are you getting another discount?

      • Pascal says:

Did it? o.O It’s never been a massive benefit (and I never calculated it in), but sometimes nice to see the 5% coming down.
For this one it’s giving me a 2.10 GBP student promotion discount… Not sure where it came from.

      • Alan says:

I find it a bit random as to which product the discount applies to but thought I’d still seen it recently. It paid for my NUS Extra card when I bought my NAS drive and HDDs 😉

  • Mark says:

well looks like all the HFPs went for the champagne as they are nearly all sold out but thankfully managed to grab a bottle of Mumm (not my favourite) for £8! Thanks
