It’s always a bit quiet on a Bank Holiday – especially if it’s sunny – so I thought I’d take the chance to remind you of some of the deals closing this week.

These are mainly on the 31st, but some people seem to be confused by how many days are in August ….

Tuesday 29th August

Last day to earn Avios and save money on Charles Tyrwhitt shirts.  Article.  At 4 Avios per £1 this is a decent offer which gets you a cash saving and some points.

Wednesday 30th August

Last day for 10% off Qatar Airways business class tickets ex-UK.  Article.  This offer can be combined with the ‘£80 cashback on £800 Qatar Airways spend’ offer that some American Express cardholders have showing on their accounts under ‘Offers’.

Last day to earn 6,000+ Miles & More miles with a hotel booking.  Article.  Whilst this deal now has a minimum spend requirement to get the full bonus, it is very generous if you are after Lufthansa miles. Remember that bookings will be treated as ‘third party’ so don’t qualify for hotel points or status benefits.

Thursday 31st

Last day to get a £50 Tesco gift card with the Tesco Premium credit card.  Article.  Some people like this card, especially if they can use the travel insurance and can spend £5000 in Tesco to trigger the annual bonus.  Others can’t see how they can even begin to justify the annual fee.

Last day for Irish residents to get triple Avios by converting SuperValu points.  Article.

Last day to get a 50% bonus on Heathrow Rewards transfers to Lufthansa Miles & More.  Article.  Remember that there is also a ‘50% bonus on Avios transfers’ offer running as well at the moment, which continues into September.

Last day to get 5,000 bonus Avios or other miles with the HSBC Premier credit cards.  Article.  HSBC only tends to run an offer once a year or so on its credit cards so it is worth jumping in if you were thinking about it.  You must be a HSBC Premier current account holder.

Last day for IHG‘s latest Accelerate promotion.  Article.  Although if you don’t have a stay booked this bit of info isn’t much use ….

Last day for Hilton‘s double or triple points promotion.  Article.  It is also the last day to earn 2,000 bonus Avios per Hilton stay.  Article.  If you need to squeeze  in a short notice hotel stay this week, look at Hilton or IHG.

Last day for 20% off Radisson Blu stays in Germany.  Article.

Last day to convert Clubcard points to avios.com or ba.com to enter their current competitions.  Article and article.   Your chances of winning aren’t great but they are better than nil, which will be your chance if you delay converting until Friday!

Last day to save 10% on a Railcard.  Article.  A £3 saving is better than nothing ….

Last day to earn triple Miles & More miles with Best Western.  Article.

Last day to redeem Virgin Atlantic miles on Malaysia Airlines.  Article.  This is worth thinking about, because you can book for travel up to 11 months in advance.

OT – is there a tool/website that allows wide search for a specific hotel chain? For instance show all prices for IHG properties for a specific date range in an entire country? Or show all prices for a specific hotel in a month (without doing 30 search)? A combination would be the best: show all night prices for IHG properties in a particular month in a particular country…

TripAdvisor lets you search over a wide area and filter by brand (although you’ll need to manually set the filter to say Intercontinental and Indigo and Holiday Inn etc rather than IHG.)

No one answered my O/T from yesterday, so before I ask for my subscription back 🙂 I’ll have another go! The question is prompted by an unplanned house move which means there will be a large chunk of spend later this week which I am very keen to go towards my 241 voucher!

I have just applied online for the BA Black Card, already holding the Blue version (i.e. I want to upgrade). This hasn’t gone through online yet, but I was wondering, when it does:

    i) will my existing Blue supplementary card holder automatically get her card replaced with the Black version?

ii) will the existing Blue cards keep working (and earn at the black card rates) pending receipt of the black card(s)?

    Thanks!

Guessing I would say the exisitng supps and main cards would be instantly deactivated on upgrade and you would need to apply again for new “black” supps.

      • Genghis says:

I’ve no direct experience of BA Blue to BAPP upgrade but my best guess based on a Gold to Plat upgrade is that supps get cards automatically. Not sure about part ii.

      Hi

In my experience (having done exactly that) the answers are as follows:

The existing cards (yours and supplementary) will both be upgraded (and old blue will keep working until you activate the new upgraded cards) . Amex website will show when your card has been upgraded to “black premium plus)

I am pretty sure (but not 100%) that you will earn “black” avios rates once the website shows you as holding the black card – even if you are using the old blue card. Obviously to be 100% sure you should try and wait for the actual new card to arrive and use that

Thanks all for your comments – will feed back my experience once the card comes (assuming its approved!) Roberto – its a long shot… does the name “Ord” mean anything to you from a forum many (15) years back?

Nope sorry.. However 15 years ago I was in my 30’s and drank a lot less. Plus I was living in the UK and getting ready to preform my own personal (and far less painful) Brexit looking for adventures new. We were only going to be here for a short while whilst recharging my life cell but that three year sabbatical has become 15 in the blink of an eye.

Since then I have become a synic, a gym bunny, a professional coffee drinker, a grandfather and a hell of lot more fotgetful. Sorry I dont recognise your handle ,but if I owe you money I can refer you onto my accountant ……

          • ee says:

Haha. No money owed. 🙂 There was a website that had an obsession with building society demutualisations. I know there is someone else who posts here that used to contribute and your user name also used to be a prolific poster there!
