Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get a 20% bonus on hotel and credit card points transfers to Etihad Guest

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Etihad Guest has launched another of its occasional transfer bonuses.

This is not a bad time to take advantage.  The recent ‘devaluation’ of Etihad Guest actually made business class flights between London and Abu Dhabi cheaper (read more here) – albeit taxes went up – and it is unlikely that we will see further changes for a couple of years.

Details of the transfer bonus are here.

For UK residents, the key transfer partners which will trigger a 20% bonus are:

Le Club AccorHotels

IHG Rewards Club

World of Hyatt

Radisson Rewards

Marriott Rewards

Hilton Honors

Shangri-La Golden Circle

HSBC Premier

It is important to note who is NOT on the list – American Express Membership Rewards.  You will not get a bonus if you transfer from here.  Note that Etihad Guest is no longer a Heathrow Rewards partner.

Transfers must be made by 30th October.  The bonus will be added in a separate transaction within 15 days of the end of the promotion.

You can find out more here. In addition, if you are not already an Etihad Guest member, you can sign up here and receive 500 bonus miles.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

  • Tariq says:

Got an email from BA yesterday, 1000 Avios transfer bonus when transferring minimum of £5 Tesco Clubcard vouchers, once per account before 15/11/18.

    • Shoestring says:

It seems people who have set their Tesco Clubcard points to auto convert to BAEC are getting an email offering a thank you 20% bonus next points quarter end (last day this quarter is 20th October). £2.50 = 720 Avios. I’m switching away from Xmas Saver to BAEC on the chance they might send out another batch of ‘thank yous’. My points are so minimal this Q, it would have to apply to existing points balance conversions as well to make a difference, doubtful about that but we’ll see.

      • BJ says:

What impact, if any, does that have on your £360 Christmas Saver balance?

        • Shoestring says:

None, the £360 is sitting there in my a/c now + £12 bonus and will be paid at Q end

    • Alan says:

Thanks for posting this. I received the email and just ignored it but now see that it is something I might want to do.

      • AndyW says:

Christmas saver can’t go to avios right?
Also, amateur hour I know, but I think I have let a load of clubcard points expire. Clearly fault I know, but anyone ever had any joy getting Tesco to reinstate as goodwill?

        • Shoestring says:

Yes – people generally get their points re-instated if they have a good phone manner

        • jeremy i says:

There is some workaround to get Christmas saver ‘indirectly’ into Avios but having searched and searched i just cant work it out. could one of you kind people give us a less cryptic clue/ tell us how this is done?

        • Ian M says:

Xmas saver to avios can be done. But it’s top secret. Apparently a website revealed it in the summer but I’ve never found it. I can’t even read the Xmas saver T&Cs to work it out because I’m out of the UK and Tesco blocks it’s website to overseas traffic

    • Shoestring says:

Transferred our 2x £5 Clubcard points to BAEC as it’s an easy 1000 Avios.

      Open to all. Not targeted.

  • Genghis says:

The Selfridges offer is on my BAPP

    • BJ says:

OT @Genghis: Do you currently have a Nectar offer for LNER? Unless I am missing something it does not appear to be an offer at all, just the standard 2:1 conversion rate from the VTEC era.

      • Genghis says:

No offers at all for earn or burn. Like I said the other day, I used some Nectar at LNER at only 0.5p recently. Nectar burning offers very light of late and value only when you actually use the points.

        • Genghis says:

Yes I could use at Sainsbury’s for the annual pre Xmas offer at 1p for wine etc but it’s only on a limited amount and wine much cheaper and better elsewhere.

        • BJ says:

Agreed, all gone very quiet. Should be the Saunburys double up offer soon unless reports last time were true and it is gone for good. I mostly shop at Sainsbury’s and the deluge of coupons have dried up, nothing at all on my last 7 shops.

        • Crafty says:

BJ, they are trialling a transition to only offering electronic coupons, check your Nectar app. I get a few, largely useless, coupons every week.

        • BJ says:

@Crafty, thanks, now you mention it I have had a few useless ones too. like ×5 on clothing or homes are. Nothing on groceries though which is where I want offers to be. If Tesco send me some more MOC I will go back there.

  • Bob says:

Selfridges offer on Gold and My wife’s BA Amex ????

  • SB says:

Beware not to transfer more than 99,999 HSBC points in one go. Tried last year and all bounced back and received no bonus.

  • tm84 says:

No Selfridges offer on either BAPP or Gold. Just like no Amex Travel offer either. I seem to only get lame fashion ones.

    • Maciek says:

Same here. Platinum card offers are poor. Gold card showing 3 rubbish ones, nothing at all on SPG and BA.

    • BJ says:

No offers at all on my BAPP and nectar or my partners BAPP. We complained some weeks ago without success. Did not get the MR multispend on plat last time or this time nor the petrol one or the Boots ones which all ran over the summer. I think I might cancel card and tell them lack of the decent offers is the reason.

      • Jill (Kinkell) says:

I’m considering doing the same ,cancelling plat and SPG . Fed up.

        • Jumble Tales says:

Ditto. No offers on SPG, presumably because it gets a lot of use….but ironically no SPG points posted since July.

  • Gary says:

Getting very annoyed at my lack of offers such as these on my plat card. It makes me even more determined to rinse as many referral points and churns as much as possible.

    • Rich says:

I’ve read on here before that you can call Amex and they will load the offer for you – others with that experience should confirm this?

      • Maciek says:

Used to be possible but not anymore sadly.

      • BJ says:

In the good old days it was common, amex are now very reluctant to meet such requests.

        • Gary says:

Yeah I’ve had the same experience. They just say it’s a limited to x number of people and they must have all signed up

      • GabeS says:

        Tried recently,rejected!

  • Ron says:

Gift cards are excluded from the MR bonus offer.

    • Shoestring says:

      Nope, unlikely

    • Bonglim says:

It might say that, but how would they know?
I don’t think that Boots or Debenhams (or whoever) let the credit card company know what the spend is on when they take your payment at the till. So buying £250 of vouchers is just like buying £250 of medications.

      • Genghis says:

        Apart from at Harrods, supposedly?

        • Jay says:

I purchased gift cards online at Harrods when the offer was on a few months ago for them and they all triggered the rebate and others did report it worked in-store as well if that’s of any help.

    • The streets says:

Mine posted fine for the MR offer from Tescos. Re: selfridges offer – it does say in the ts and cs no gift cards but as rob says there’s no way of distinguishing what you purchase

      • Genghis says:

I think Rob, for once, is a bit less bullish in his advice

        • BJ says:

Not certain but think Rob mentioned in the past year that gift cards stopped working for him at Harrods, that’s probably why.

          • Rob says:

But other readers then found it did ….. so who knows?! I had never had a problem before, I remember once buying 5 Harrods gift cards on 5 credit cards in one go and all tracked.

    • Allan says:

If you buy gift card online it looks like it does not accept amex and also is through a third party so would require a visit to a store?

      • Dave says:

I’d avoid buying gift cards or the Amex RAT lot will be after you, give you a financial review and close your accounts.

  • BJ says:

    “I don’t see a way of doing this –”

    Have another kid?

    • Bagoly says:

The contract I got (I confess I did not read this bit of the small print) was “Boots spend will become high and continuous. No children necessary.”
      YWMV

    • Rob says:

Thought about it but a quick check showed chances of getting 5 award seats was slim. Realistically would need 2 more kids to maximise a 241 voucher anyway.
