Get a 30% bonus buying World of Hyatt points – worth it?

UPDATE – APRIL 2024:  This article is now out of date, but don’t worry.  We produce a monthly summary of the top hotel bonus point offers – please click HERE or use the ‘Hotel Offers’ menu above.

Keep up to date with new hotel offers by signing up for our free daily or weekly newsletters.

Until 22nd February Hyatt is offering a 30% bonus when you buy World of Hyatt points.  The minimum purchase for the bonus is 5,000 points.

This is obviously worth a look if you need to top up your account.  It may also be worthwhile if considering a stay in a top tier Park Hyatt such as the ones in Paris or Sydney, where buying the points may be cheaper than paying cash.

The new-ish Park Hyatt resort in Mallorca – photo above – is another location where buying points makes sense.   Prices for cash are a little scary – rooms from €470 in August, or €495 if you want a cancellable one.  A redemption at 20,000 points per night ($360) would be a good deal, saving over 30%.

The Hyatt ‘buy points’ site is here.

OT – IHG Creation Black card
I have spent over 10k and earned the free night. My card is due for renewal and I want to cancel. Anyone knows when I can cancel and request for an refund without affecting my free nights? As it maybe sometimes before it get posted to my IHG account.

    Many Thanks

    Totally OT:

Can you upgrade the Amex green charge card to plat for the 20k bonus points?

Do you get the annual fee ‘bonus’ that occurred with upgrading the gold?

    • TGLoyalty says:

If you are awaiting the gold spend bonus you have to wait until they have posted before upgrading to Plat

    • Andrew M says:

Short answer, no. No upgrade route from Green to Plat.

O/T (Reposted in Bits today as didn’t get much response yesterday, may have got buried late in day) : Does anyone know how to, or how easy it is to convert a BA Family & Friends member to a BA Household Account member ? My son now has an Amex Gold Card and is currently in my friends & family members and has his own BA exec club account. Now that he will get 22k + hopefully another 3k supplementary card MR points, we will want to transfer them into Avios in my household account at some point. He plus other son + a girlfriend were added to the Friends & Family list in August 2018 and another fried added in December 2018, but none have been removed in last six months. Can it be done ? Son is registered by BA at our home address, only 2 people in HHA at the moment. thanks

    • Anna says:

You might not need to “convert” him, just create a BAEC account for him and then ask for this to be added to your HHA. I can’t wait till my son is 18 and can earn his upkeep in avios!!

Thanks Lee. Interesting. If I’ve read that right they’re suggesting US customers with the basic card will receive an extra free night worth up to 35,000 points when they spend nearly £49,000 on the basic card card. I must have misunderstood.

    Nope.

    Quick OT
I’m considering asking for a Marriott Platinum challenge, Just need to know will a rewards stay (T/Package 7nights) count towards the 16nights needed? Or just cash bookings.
    TIA
