Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 15% cashback from American Express with taxi app Gett

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

American Express has launched a new cashback offer with taxi app Gett which operates in London, Bristol, Edinburgh, Coventry, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle.

The offer may or may not be showing under the ‘Offers’ section on the Amex app or website for one of your cards.  You need to ‘save to card’ if it is.

Once you’ve done that, you will receive 15% cashback on all of your Gett rides between now and 23rd June.

This isn’t as generous as the offer Gett ran before Christmas, which offered a 25% rebate, but it’s basically free money so you can’t complain.

The £50 cap on cashback has gone, so for very heavy users you may even be better off this time.

Wheely – Anyone used them after a big event at Wembley for a trip back to central London? Or, any other tips on how to avoid a two hour wait at the tube station? Going to a concert at end June and I know my wife isn’t going to like a slow crawl up Wembley way

    • Rob says:

Why not either get a mainline train from the little station behind the stadium or, more sensibly, walk into Brent and get the tube there?

  • Jerry says:

The points guy launching in Uk.

Rob, what are your thoughts. With the money they will be throwing around, looks like they want to be number 1 in the Uk

    • Rob says:

Could not have put it better.

Plus even if the news items each day aren’t totally relevant to your needs there is always genuinely good advice and extra information in the comment section. It’ll be super difficult to replicate that. I’ll sign up (some of those prizes would be nice!) but I don’t think I’ll be learning anything new.

  • EM says:

    Re: Wheely
Can not recommend even with the £25 offer. Basically you have NO idea what a journey will cost. I had an estimate today of £46-£56 and was charged £69. I used it a few weeks ago and was charged the max quoted. On both occasions they were more expensive than my regular driver, even with the offer.

  • Spaghetti Town says:

Stupid question: do card membership fees count towards spend targets on amex cards?

  • Ammar says:

OT – have the Amex offer – spend £250 and get £75 back. I have already billed £100 at an eligible hotel, So thinking That if I bill a furher £150 that i should trigger the offer. Q:
    1) not done it one transaction – is that ok?
    2) I am booking a pre-paid rate which is £133 with FX fees, so thinking if I spend another £17 at the hotel and pay at checkout that should trigger the offer, is my thinking correct?

    • Ammar says:

Its the Hilton offer on Amex

      • Alan says:

Yep Hilton offer is fine for split spend. You can also split payment at hotel so as I had offer on main and additional Plat I completed offer (with a £1 margin!) on one card then out balance of bill on another. Have had email and credit for first one, will trigger second today when I check out. I only had 50 off 200 but at least got it twice!

    • John says:

Just hope the pound doesn’t rise before your stay

    • Graham Walsh says:

Just be careful as pre pay rates are not charged straight away. They will be charged at a random time before your arrival. I don’t know why Hilton don’t take the money straight away. I know if I was in business I would. I booked 4 rooms on 31/10/18 and it wasn’t charged until 15/12/18 for the stay at then of of Jan 19.

  • KBuffett says:

OT – If I get a business AMEX, does the statement show my MR balance?
Ideally, I’d like for my colleagues not to see that info.

    • RedEyeDonkey says:

Mine doesn’t for a biz plat, doesn’t even show in the logged in area on the website just says linked to my personal MR account (I got the PRG first). Not sure what they do if you don’t have a personal account to link the MR to first though.

  • Nick_C says:

OT – Lloyd’s Upgrade Voucher. I still have full functionality to book through the Avios Web Site, and the fees and charges come through on my CC as “Avios Group”, so no extra points.

If I phone BAEC to book, is it charged to BA or Avios Group?

    • Alex W says:

You don’t phone BAEC you phone Avios to book with Lloyd’s voucher.

      • Anna says:

I think Rob said the other day it’s all done via BA now, even if you call the old avios number.

  • Rob says:

Also Lloyds OT – Are you able to earn more than 1 upgrade voucher from the Lloyds cards in 1 membership year? Mine ends in July and I believe I had my last one issued in November.

    • BJ says:

No. However, if you get one as a surprise don’t be surprised as they seem to be dishing them out randomly in the past year. IMO all a bit unfair as we all pay the same fee.

      • Moe says:

I spoke with Lloyds on Monday about this. My card year runs from November. As I haven’t received the letter notifying me of changes to the account I am still able to earn a voucher for this year up until 65 days from receiving the letter. The agent clarified they wanted to get all letters out by June and I will likely receive mine in a few weeks. I suggest giving them a call to clarify your dates with them.

        • Anna says:

This wasn’t what they told me. They said that the cards as they are now will close in June, but we will have until the end of the current card year (so next Feb for me) to earn another voucher. This tallies with what other readers have been informed by letter.

        • Tom1 says:

Anna – correct. The 60 days notice applies to the zero fee foreign currency transaction, and the current points earning structure. My letter specifically States I have until Feb 2020 to earn my voucher, which is 12 months from my card year.
