Kimpton Blythswood Square hotel in Glasgow is now open

IHG has now officially rebranded its Blythswood Square property in Glasgow as Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel following the completion of refurbishment work.

This makes it the second Kimpton property in Scotland, following the Kimpton Charlotte Square in Edinburgh, and the 3rd in the UK following Kimpton Fitzroy in Russell Square, London.  I wrote about my tour of Kimpton London here.

Kimpton Blythswood Square hotel glasgow

Blythswood Square was the only AA-ranked five star hotel in Glasgow.  Whilst I can’t comment on the location or service, the photographs – see above – look very impressive, with the usual ‘budget no problem’ approach that former owner Principal Hotels applied to all of its UK renovations.

The IHG website has yet to be updated – if you look at the booking page here it is still unbranded.

As an alternative, my recent review of IHG’s Hotel Indigo Glasgow is here.

Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction for car rental codes etc please?

I know there was an article recently, I thought related to Amex plat and the various discount codes but cannot find it. There is also a Hertz and Europcar Amex offer that I could use.

If anyone has any tips for driving around the Amalfi coast, I would appreciate those too!

OT: Is travel insurance(benefit of the Plat Amex card) valid if the card has been received once all the travel arrangements have been made and paid with a different card?

    • Rob says:

Yes, except for the things that you are not covered for if you don’t pay on any personal Amex card. This is basically ‘little stuff’ and you are OK for any serious medical issues regardless.

    Rob,
Any recommendation on which 0% FX cards since it appears my Lloyds cards are no longer working!!
Only problem with Curve is the charge 0.5% charge over weekends.Need some advice ASAP since need a card for our trip in 2 weeks. Thanks

Revolut and change the money before you go (not on a weekend). Starling bank. Tandem card.

      • David says:

        Hi Peter
Would you recommend any one of those over others?
Take occasional money out abroad but spend is high for hotels etc. So Curve blue is out.

      Thanks

Also metro current account. They issue the debut card in store immediately

OT: Just read a tip on a similar site about registering for Regis to get Dragonpass for £19 a visit. Has anyone done this? If legit, would it be worth a piece, or even just a mention? Sounds like a good way for non-frequent travellers to get lounge access!
