Hilton Honors has quietly increased the points price of three London hotels

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

On Monday we wrote about the quiet Hilton Honors redemption price rises.  I said that London seemed to have got away without any changes, but that rises were still filtering through the system.

It seems I spoke too soon.  Three of the four Hilton Honors hotels in London which had a 30,000 points per night cap have gone up to 40,000 points.

There are:

Hampton by Hilton London Docklands (covered here, photo above)

DoubleTree London Greenwich

Hampton by Hilton London Gatwick (reviewed here)

The Hilton Garden Inn at Hatton Cross, near Heathrow (reviewed here) remains capped at 30,000 points.

Whilst all of the other Hilton properties in London are unchanged, this change is a blow to anyone who only had a small number of points and was hoping to get a free London hotel stay out of it.

OT but Hilton related. Anyone else having problems with recaptcha and Hilton login with award wallet app. I click the correct pictures, it says I’ve passed (green tick), I press sign in and then it makes me do it all again and again and again. On the Hilton website it works fine however.

    • Brighton Belle says:

I went around the rechapta circuit about 8 times before Awardwallet got access this morning. Hilton’s use of this horrid tool brings out the mass murderer in me.

    • Andrew says:

      Try the audio alternative.

  • Brian says:

OT – Rob, are you aware that the Rydges hotel in South Ken (Gloucester Road) is now a Melia hotel?

    • Rob says:

I am – there was going to be some refurbishing done but not sure if it has been completed or not. If it is ‘finished’ I will see if they want it reviewed, and have a stroll over!

  • Zara says:

Hi – did anyone else receive an invitation to legoland as part of BA100 celebrations? 6 July for £17pp and limited to 5,000 BA members. 5,000 ppl seems quite a lot in the part though!

  • rob says:

OT – Is the BA & Laithwaites partnership still giving out 1k avios for new customers?

Used the link within the BA website for Laithwaites and created a new account with my order but no mention of any avios bonus. Does this just turn up in your account?

    Many thanks

    • Rob says:

I’m not sure. I have deliberately not mentioned this offer as I’m not convinced it is set up correctly.

    • Shoestring says:

there’s a spend £100 get £20 Amex statement credit if you wanted a more expensive case perhaps

      • Shoestring says:

Could work out quite well. You could go for one of the £99.99 Thank you caseshttps://www.laithwaites.co.uk/jsp/offer/cm/common/offer.jsp?name=jun19-thankyou-mixedcases (which get a free mystery Magnum)
then add on 3 bottles of Opi Malbec 2018 (half price £14.97 for 3)
and get £20 back from Amex
and get 1000 Avios for a new account

  • Oz 59 says:

I recall there was a comment a while back regarding applicable bonus MR when upgrading from Amex Green to Plat. I have held Plat recently (but never green) and would like to refresh my memory. May I ask someone to point me in that direction as I can’t remember the detail and I’m sure there were some wise words out there. Thanks

The update on the HfP summer party should not have been stuck near the end of the Bits email as that meant it wasn’t even in the emails main subject line.

Please only send any further info about the HfP party in specific titled emails referencing the party that we cannot miss on the crucial day given how fierce competition to buy tickets for the party nearly always is………..

    • Rob says:

It will be a full article next week. We just wanted to mention it somewhere this week to keep it front of mind ….

    • Jonah says:

Wow so you are actually directly telling Rob what to do now?

      • Sussex Bantam says:

Sometimes it is difficult to actually get to the end of a headline…

Bits: Hilton London redemption increases, Avios / Charles Tyrwhitt promo, HFP party update

        • Charlieface says:

Personally I’ve often thought the Bits articles should be broken up into separate pages/emails. Perhaps Bite-sized news articles??

          • Rob says:

            Two reasons:

            a) the emails would get a bit messy (although putting all three Bits articles together is not, I admit, a lot longer than the current email)

            b) more importantly, we would fill the home page with irrelevant stuff. When people first visit HFP, we want to make them to think ‘this is the place I’ve been looking for’. The way to do that is to ensure that the home page contains lots of articles they really, really want to read. Splitting out Bits articles would push out the good content and replace it with ‘not hugely important but worth mentioning anyway’ content.

        • Rob says:

We cut them as short as we can!

  • Michael says:

    Any easy avios today shoestring?

    • Shoestring says:

Tastecard 367 Avios, you can immediately cancel your membership going forward but you still get the Avios.

Lottoland (£5.01 deposit) would get you 800 Avios profit

    OT:
Looking for hotel recommendations in New York and California Disney area. We will be spending 5 nights in each….
I have Hilton gold, Bonvoy gold and IHG ambassador.
I still have my ambassador certificate and 1 night free for spending 10K on credit card.
I would consider non chain hotels if they are good.
    Thanks in advance

    • Lee says:

      Conrad is good choice

      • Genghis says:

+1 for the conrad. I was diamond when I contacted the hotel and they sorted out a river view room (dropped to gold when stayed). Breakfast not bad (it’s buffet at the weekend). Free drink in the bar.

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

Expect nothing for Gold – 95% of the people in the hotel will have it.

Hilton and WA at Bonnet Creek have a nice swimming pool if that is important.

If considering independent and happy to drive, gated villa communities offer far better value than most large hotels – last time we got an immaculate villa that could have easily slept 14 with its own pool – and access to the resort pool/gym too – all for the price of a single room at one of the decent hotel properties.

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

Ignore all that – missed it was Disney at Cali and not Florida! 🙁

        • Sussex Bantam says:

But you are right about Florida ! This is exactly the option we take…

      • AndyW says:

On Florida gated villa communities, any tips on where to best search and book these?

        • Sussex Bantam says:

We book ours through homeaway.co.uk but there are many other similar options.

We usually stay around the junction of 192 and 27. It’s a bit further away from the parks and so the prices are lower. Last year we got 3 weeks in a 5 bedroom villa with pool for 1500USD.

        • pauldb says:

This is narrow advice but we rented a 4 bed townhouse at Storey Lake through followthesunvacationrentals.com . Wherever you are looking, you often find the same property listed by many agents; so let airbnb point you to the right agents’ sites. In fact in this case I think the properties are owned by the builder Lennar. House had a modest plunge pool but Storey Lake has a nice main pool. Ridiculously cheap, c$150/night. It’s right on the West Osceola Parkway – very quick to Disney – but oddly had no toll station to the highway so no tolls (and no hire car tolling surcharge) all week bar day 1 and day Z.

        • AndyW says:

          Thanks!
