Earn an underwhelming double Avios points on Aer Lingus flights to Dublin

Aer Lingus is running a special offer on the Dublin route.

It is, unfortunately, underwhelming.  You receive double Avios on all Aer Lingus flights between London Gatwick and Dublin between 25th July and 31st August.  No other departure points are included.

Even worse, existing bookings do not count.

You need to credit your flight to an Aer Lingus AerClub account to benefit from this.  You can move your Avios from AerClub via avios.com into your British Airways Executive Club account.

Given that you only earn 4 Avios for every £1 spent with Aer Lingus, and this excludes Government taxes and ancilliary fees such as seat selection or luggage charges, this is unlikely to be a life changing offer.  It certainly isn’t worth swapping Heathrow for Gatwick if you need to fly Aer Lingus, especially as Aer Lingus has a decent lounge in Heathrow Terminal 2.

You can see the offer on the AerClub offers page.  This does not include the small print, but the emailed version I received does state that flights must be flown and booked during the offer period.
