Hilton Honors has just launched its new Autumn promotion which is now open for registration.

The promotion is called ‘Double Rewards’.

To give Hilton credit, it is very straightforward with virtually no small print.

What do I get with Hilton’s ‘Double Rewards’?

You will earn DOUBLE Hilton Honors base points for every stay between 8th September and 31st December.

You also earn DOUBLE elite night credits.

Hilton Honors double rewards promotion 2020

This makes the offer very interesting for anyone chasing Hilton Honors status.  It also makes the Hilton status match very attractive, as I will highlight in a separate article tomorrow.

For most brands, you will earn 10 base points per $1 spent, plus an additional 10 promotional points plus any status bonus.

Given that I value a Hilton Honors point at around 0.33p, you are getting a good return on your spending here.  20 points per $1 is an 8% rebate and that is before you add in any status bonus.

What is the small print?

There is not much small print except that you need to register in advance via the Hilton website

Apart from that, all is good:

There is no minimum stay requirement

Existing bookings still count

All Hilton Family properties (Hilton, Hampton, Curio, Waldorf-Astoria, Conrad etc) are taking part – there is no list of non-participating hotels

Remember that the Home2 Suites and Tru brands earn a lower 5 base points per $1.

There is NO ‘starting with your second stay’ rule.  You get double points from your first stay during the promotional period.

Remember that Hilton will carry over your elite nights to 2021

Hilton announced in July that all of your elite night credits earned in 2020 will be carried over to 2021.

This makes ‘Double Rewards’ very interesting. Even if you don’t need to earn Hilton status for 2021, because your 2020 status has been extended, it is still worth putting in some nights.

The elite nights you earn in 2020 will carry over into 2021, and will help you earn status for 2022!

Details of Hilton’s ‘elite rollover nights’ arrangement are here.

Register for ‘Double Rewards’ now

Hilton’s new ‘double base points and double elite nights’ promotion is a decent offer, especially for people doing longer, more expensive stays.

It will also be a real benefit to anyone looking to earn status for 2021 or, due to the rollover of your elite nights credits, 2022.

You should make sure you register here if you have any Hilton stays coming up over the next four months.

Even without Hilton Honors status, you will be earning 20 points (which I value at 6.6p) per $1.  This is an 8% rebate on your spending.  Anyone with Hilton status will do even better.

Even if you don’t have any stays planned, it is still worth registering just in case – a lot can happen between now and 31st December.

  • KBuffett says:

Generous offer. Can one match Marriott Platinum with Hilton Diamond? If Diamond is attained this year, will it be valid through to the end of 2023?

    • Rob says:

No. Hilton only matches to Gold.

    • BJ says:

No. It is no longer possible to match any other status to instant Diamond. You now only get Fold for the duration of the challenge and upgraded to Diamond only if you have been offered it and successfully complete the challenge.

  • Trevor Lucas says:

Do the ‘bonus’ nights count towards lifetime Diamond targets?

    • Pangolin says:

That’s the one thing that’s still uncertain. John Ollia (Loyalty Lobby) has put this question to Corporate and is waiting for a response, so that’s the best site to check for an update.

  • BJ says:

Rob, any idea if the current status extension will count for Lifetime Diamond?

  • TripRep says:

Good offer actually tempted to stay at the DT Queensferry again if U can get a good rate and upgrade

  • BJ says:

Will award nights will also give be double elite night credit or is it just paid nights?

    • Pangolin says:

According to the FAQ it will.

“ Are all rates included in this promotion?

No. A list of ineligible rates can be found under the Hilton Honors Terms and Conditions: Accrual of Points number 3.”

But ineligible rates in the T&Cs is just things like OTA bookings, so reward booking should give you double night credit.

You’ll also earn double points but only on incidental spend (or the cash part of a points+cash booking): “ Will I earn Bonus Points for Reward Stays with the “Double Rewards” promotion?

Yes – members are eligible to earn Hilton Honors Bonus Points on paid portions of reward stays with the “Double Rewards” promotion, including incidental charges.” [FAQ]

  • Harry T says:

I was disappointed to hear that Hilton does not allow existing Gold members to do a status challenge for Diamond, as I was quite prepared to push 9 nights (usually 18 without this offer) their way this year. As it stands, they will lose my revenue due to their odd policy.

    • Crafty says:

Did Hilton customer service advise you of this? Sounds odd, as this exact route is how I achieved Diamond.

    • Dave says:

You could open a new account, status match to Gold, 9 nights to get to Diamond and transfer any points on your old account via your partner (so it doesn’t look suspicious).

I’ve done 10 nights this year as a gold but would like to get Diamond. I currently need 15 (30/2) nights just to retain Gold, or 9 nights to get Diamond with a new account.

    • Harry T says:

      @Crafty
It’s in the FAQs for the status match. Probably a recent change.

    • TGLoyalty says:

would it count as double nights for the status challenge anyway?

    • Lady London says:

so match it elsewhere and come back in again for a match?

  • Jon says:

Does Hilton do soft landings, Diamond to Gold, does anyone know?

    • Pangolin says:

Officially no. Occasionally they let you retain a status if you came very close and have a good record as an elite customer (anecdotal FT evidence). There’s also a Diamond waiver that you can use once if you’ve had diamond for several years (you get a free year where you can retain Diamond w/o having to qualify legitimately).

Marriott have long had an unofficial soft landing policy but this year you often had to push to get given it (it used to be automatic). A lot of people got downgraded from Titanium to Gold (or Platinum to Silver) at the end of March, which never happened before.

  • Trevor says:

Thanks, I have 4 stays before Christmas so this is perfect.
