1,000 Membership Rewards points for American Express Gold cardholders – if you’re quick

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

American Express has launched a new offer for the first 55,000 American Express Preferred Rewards Gold cardholders who sign up.

You can find the registration link under the ‘Offers’ tab on your Gold statement page on the Amex website or in the app.

Once registered, you will receive 1 extra Membership Rewards point on your Amex Gold spending until 6th September. Your bonus is capped at 1,000 points.

The offer will disappear once all 55,000 slots are filled, so register ASAP.

The offer takes your earnings to 2 points per £1 on that £1,000 of spending, a rate which no other card can touch. If you have a Gold card but don’t use it, dig it out.

Sorry really random unrelated question ….

Can anyone who’s been to Wimbledon this week confirm if they are checking ID?

My friend has slipped a disk in his back and won’t be able to travel down for Saturday . So I have someone I can transfer the tickets to but the main ticket won’t transfer . It’s a friend and I’m selling for face value so can I just give them my Wimbledon login and let them go pretending to be me ?

I could give them ID but I have no hair 🙄 and they have a fairly decent amount. – so may be pretty obvious ….. advice appreciated

    • Rob says:

Didn’t check our ID but there is a 100% check on covid status and you are given a wristband to prove it so they also need your NHS app login.

    • Babyg says:

You can only transfer 1 out of 2 tickets. They are checking ID. I would say im 95% sure you wont get in unless your ID matches.

      • Babyg says:

based on robs reply maybe you have a 50% chance 🙂 and if you fail try another gate.. they defo checked our IDs and names on tickets…

        • Rob says:

There is no name on the 2nd ticket, only main ticket holder.

To be honest I thought they would ask for both names when buying but they don’t.

          • Barry cutters says:

            Ok thanks
            Doesn’t seem worth the risk ;

just requested a refund via Wimbledon which should go through fine .

Also called the Bentley in south Ken and regarding our non refundable bookings and they agreed to cancel both rooms x2 nights free of charge .

            Thanks for the help .

  • Alex Sm says:

I only have 10% off at Apex hotels. Another interesting question is what card I need to pay to get this (I have 2 cards and the offers kind of cover both as far as I understand but CB will be paid into one of them, it says)

  • Prince Charles says:

I have the offer for Ann Summers too. Ewwwww.
I will never be buying anything from there!

    • Number9 says:

I’m sure camilla is most grateful for that , more M&S I would have thought don’t forget to go thru shopping portal for extra points Charlie boy. Although I’ve just had a horrible flash back to what you once said about your then mistress 😱

  • flyforfun says:

    I have 9 offers!
    Costa 10% 23/7
    Honest Burgers 10% 13/8
    Sainsburys 10% 1/8
    Matalan 10% 1/8
    Funky Pidgeon 10% 1/8
    Pret 20% 1/8
    Just Eat 12% 1/8
    5 guys 5% 17/8
    Subway 10% 16/8

If I use my Curve card will the discount still apply?

    • Rob says:

      No

    • Andrew says:

Also had the Pret 20%, that was a £100 Gift Card so morning snacks for a few weeks.
Sainsbury’s – only got 5%, but have bought £300 of various GCs anyway.
Matalan – 10%, this should stack with the 20 Nectar Points/£1 on Nectar Connect.

      I’ve another 20+ offers.

  • DeB20 says:

In addition to Costa 10%, I also have Harvey Nichols 10%. Hello Mr Krug! 😊

  • David Butcher says:

I too can only dream of such offers from MBNA Rob. What have I done to upset them?

    • Andrew says:

Do you make at least one transaction daily through it?

      • Rob says:

I put substantial sums on mine, although a lot is US$ transactions for HfP to benefit from the 0% FX fee. It was over £40k last year.

        • Andrew says:

That’s definitely worth it for the 0.5% on £40K.

Perhaps you need to make a few transactions in stores that are less AB, and more C2DE to trigger offers?

A quick trip to Poundland (although they take Amex), B&M, Home Bargains or Farmfoods?

      • flyforfun says:

I put less and £30 a month through mine! All spend on Amex, then Lloyds Avios but now that that is dead, this card will get some more spend on it.

  • Andrew says:

Just a quick one, there’s more than one kind of Horizon Card. The Horizon card I have that replaced my BMI Amex Card, has the 0.5% fund return but isn’t FX free.

It’s still very much worth keeping though for the 0.5%

  • Eugene says:

I have just dumped my VA Premium card before the new year fee is applied. Too many points and vouchers to burn thru for a while. Looks like its time to dust the Horizon card down and use that for a bit. Unless ayoe thinks theres a better Visa/MC to own?

    • Eugene says:

Thanks that was my analysis too. Still finding..07 or .08 IHG nuggets out there with the 100pct promo.
