There are strong rumours tonight that American Express is about to launch a £200 dining credit for The Platinum Card holders.

You will receive 100% back when you spend at participating restaurants, up to a cumulative £200. Centurion cardholders will receive a £400 credit.

The offer will run from tomorrow until the end of 2021.

If you’re in London, you’re laughing. The list of restaurants is simply outstanding, from 3-star Michelin restaurants through to more casual groups such as The Ivy.

American Express £200 Platinum dining credit

The Ivy Harrogate is pictured above – there are a fair number of non-London restaurants included although there do seem to be big geographic gaps.

There are over 1,000 participating restaurants across 15 countries. Here is a random London selection for the letter ‘B’:

    If I apply for a new card will this apply? Also, I currently have the Vitality Amex but have never held a plantinum card. Any idea if I will also qualify for the 60,000 points?

      I can’t remember the dates exactly of the previous £175 offer, but I believe it came out mid January and it had a Amex plat sign up cut off of early January to be eligible

    Do Amex literally not give a sh*t about anyone in the UK outside London? The only option in Edinburgh, or Scotland for that matter, is The Ivy.

        That’s what I find so frustrating, it’s not like there aren’t lots of fantastic options (I highly recommend the Devil’s Advocate where I went a couple of weekends ago for dinner for one!), they clearly just can’t be bothered trying. It’s the same time and again with their offers.

      Manchester only has two – imagine how many cardholders there are in the greater manchester area (inclusive of east cheshire also where there will be a lot of Centurion holders also).

      Ivy in Richmond (i’ve been impressed by the ones I’ve visited by given comments about Glasgow clearly this isn’t universal), or there are some places in Kensington.

      Have you ever been to the ivy in Harrogate?
      Brace yourself. It is cheap but basically microwave ready meal level. Then of course the hen dos and the general ambience. Wetherspoons is more upmarket

        Hi, yes I’ve been once and thought the food was really average, bordering on poor, but thought I was just unlucky that time. Obviously not. Might need to pay a visit to Leeds instead, few more choices there. Enjoy your credit wherever you end up.

          It comes in cook chill and is warmed up apparently. I only know this as lots of dishes included carrots but when we asked for a carrots they squirmed a bit before confessing that they didn’t get any fresh veg in

          The trouble with Harrogate is that despite its many eateries it does not have a really good restaurant. I think it could have sustained a proper Ivy.

          I think you are greatly underestimating the size of England.

          I’ve booked both of the Manchester offerings and while not one to sneer at free money the choices are a little underwhelming.

          I can see it being a logistical nightmare for the Amex marketing team to call and negotiate with individual restaurants on spec, but I wonder if when word gets out some will approach them and be added. I’ve booked far enough in the future just in case.

            No, but if you have no intention of leaving your house for the next 4 months, then Amex Plat probably isn’t the card you should be spending £575 a year on anyway.

            You have 4 months to find somewhere to enjoy a free lunch and dinner while you do something else such as take a break/go to some museum / see some sights etc.

            Venture out you might actually see something new.

    The wording does say that this list is “part of the complimentary dining credit” – perhaps suggesting the list isn’t exhaustive.
