There are strong rumours tonight that American Express is about to launch a £200 dining credit for The Platinum Card holders.

You will receive 100% back when you spend at participating restaurants, up to a cumulative £200. Centurion cardholders will receive a £400 credit.

The offer will run from tomorrow until the end of 2021.

EDIT Wed AM: This offer is now live and you can add it via the ‘Offers’ section of your card.

The participating restaurants are here.

If you’re in London, you’re laughing. The list of restaurants is simply outstanding, from 3-star Michelin restaurants through to more casual groups such as The Ivy.

The Ivy Harrogate is pictured above – there are a fair number of non-London restaurants included although there do seem to be big geographic gaps.

There are over 1,000 participating restaurants across 15 countries. Here is a random London selection for the letter ‘B’:

  • Bagatelle
  • Balthazar
  • Bar des Pres
  • Bluebird
  • Benares
  • Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill
  • Bob Bob Ricard
  • Brasserie Zedel
  • Bread Street Kitchen
  • Butlers Wharf Chophouse

…. and that is just ‘B’.

Full details should be released on Wednesday, but you can look at the restaurant list here.

  • Duncan Stevenson-Price says:

This will be great, even if the only option in Scotland is The Ivy (which I really enjoy).

I notice there are non-UK restaurants on that list. I wonder if the offer will work at those too?

    • BP says:

I’ve snapped up some prime Saturday tables at The Ivy in anticipation of this offer. I’ve not been but have heard lots of negative things about the Glasgow branch.

      • Duncan Stevenson-Price says:

I’ve mostly enjoyed breakfast at the Edinburgh restaurant. I did try Glasgow once for breakfast and it didn’t come close.

      • Andy says:

Likewise, haven’t been because the word on the street seems to be that the food at the Ivy Glasgow is terrible, the patrons worse and the bills extortionate.

  • Babyg says:

    ah, ICC Plat included?

    • Rob says:

Have you EVER seen an offer on the ICC card, for anything? Not seen a single one in 7-8 years.

      • Babyg says:

i applied about 20 days ago for ICC plate, still jumping through hoops to get one…. so wasnt sure if i can use by simply paying with any amex plat or it had to be a saved offer…

  • Pat says:

Do you think this will be open to new card members? I might sign up

  • Mark Neil says:

You are seriously shilling annex plat lately. You’d tell us if it was a paid promotion, right?

    • Rob says:

No personal card pays us more money per app than Amex Platinum and the bonus on Amex Platinum has never, ever, been as high as it is today. Everyone wins. We would have taken some more money off Amex to pay for the articles too but the person who we deal with was leaving and it never got done 🙂

Luckily she did approve payment for the two BA articles tomorrow and the one on Thursday before leaving, you’ll be pleased to hear, and they are tagged accordingly.

      • Nick says:

Is it Sinead or Anika who’s gone? Hopefully to somewhere good 😊

        • Rob says:

The person at Amex, not the person here. Sinead and Anika remain at home with their babies for now. Rhys is in charge of money stuff temporarily (and doing a great job) which is my name has been on more content than usual in recent months.

    • Duncan Stevenson-Price says:

I mean… it must be a common card with readers, and £200 of free almost-cash is pretty great to know about. 🤷🏼‍♂️

      • Barnaby100 says:

        If you live in London
Here is is the ivy only-microwave meals in a place full of hen dos. You would have to not only give me a £200 but pay me to go there

  • illuminatus says:

Extraordinary offer if ‘100% back when you spend at participating restaurants, up to a cumulative £200’ is true, a reason to keep and even open a Platinum card

    • Fraser says:

Given how long ago the Waitrose, Deliveroo etc free cash ended, and the reduced number of lounges combined with still little to no travel, it’s about time they did something to discourage cancellation

However, offering just one restaurant in the whole of Scotland just reinforces how London-centric their offering is, and makes me more likely to cancel.

      • Aston100 says:

At least you get a restaurant up there.
Appears to be nothing in the entirety of the Midlands.

        • Matt says:

Actually there’s a few in Birmingham, but they’ve got their geography confused with Alabama as they’re all listed in the USA section

  • meta says:

Available in all countries on the list? It would be nice to try some Parisian restaurants.

  • Symon says:

I downgraded to Green when the pandemic hit, might have to finally upgrade.

    • TGLoyalty says:

It’s likely it’ll be for existing customer as of today though like the last £175 offer

  • David says:

I have had 130K extra MR since last march I think we get pretty good value.
