What is the British Airways On Business points redemption chart?

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

What is the British Airways On Business scheme redemption chart?  How many On Business points do you need to fly to a particular city?

It is surprisingly tricky to find out how many On Business points are required for a particular route.  There is no published reward chart.  The easiest way is to go to BA On Business page and search using the (slow) booking tool.  It is a bit of a drag.

This table should simplify the process.

British Airways On Business

What is On Business?

On Business is the other British Airways loyalty programme. Instead of rewarding flyers, it rewards your company when you travel.

The On Business programme is explained at this website.  It is fundamentally the same as Avios in structure. You earn On Business Points for every flight your company books. They can then be redeemed for flights or for upgrades.

You can collect both Avios and On Business Points on the same flight. You collect Avios as a flyer and On Business Points as a company.

Not already a member of On Business?

Our full review of On Business is here.

The sign-up page is here (click ‘Join On Business’ in the menu bar). A VAT number is required.  New members automatically qualify for a special sign-up bonus of triple points for your first six one-way flights within 12 months of joining.

If you say on your application form that you were referred by member OB10171896 then you receive 1,500 bonus On Business points after crediting your first flight.  (And so do I, so thank you.)

A few notes about the chart below

  • I have included some British Airways routes which are currently suspended, eg Abu Dhabi. You can still price these redemptions via the On Business website so I have included the data for if / when BA brings them back.
  • The final column compares the British Airways On Business redemption rate versus the normal Avios rate.  The ratio varies between 4.9 (good value, use On Business points) and 2.5 (poor value, use Avios instead). We will look at this in more detail in a second article tomorrow.

If you want to download this data, you can.  Click here to download the spreadsheet in Excel format.

  • The real Swiss Tony says:

You may be looking at this in the follow up tomorrow, but short haul is also blighted by the absence of an RFS equivalent. I used up some close to expiry OB points to go to Scotland a few years back and the TFCs were eye-watering.

    • Rob says:

Shouldn’t be too bad now. One way from LHR to Glasgow is £27 taxes and charges vs £17.50 RFS – just checked it. One way in the other direction is £26.

    • Alex Sm says:

This is weird. My partner and I recently used OB points to go from LHR to Warsaw and Stockholm, so for the former “taxes” were £53 for a return, for the latter – £19 one-way. Peanuts!

  • HotinNewcastle says:

My wife got the BA Accelerating Business Account really for the avios bonus, but i can see an on business number in the amex app, how does she log into the account? does she do forgotten password or have to apply/register separately and if so can we use your referral bonus?

    • Rob says:

      Go to ba.com/onbusiness

Ensure you are logged out of BAEC first or it gets confused.

As the account is open you can’t use the code.

  • Boi says:

Booking last minute (as Plans frequently changed) flights from Nassau to Miami were expensive…..then I remembered I have on business points…..managed to get 3 tickets!

  • Mark Janes says:

Worth downloading the Excel spreadsheet. A quick “auto filter” will present the chart in descending order of ratio, so you can easily see which destinations represent the best “On Business” value vs Avios.

  • ChrisC says:

I read the title as “what is the point of BA on business”

Which is probably the topic of another post altogether.
