  There’s certainly something odd with the Avios Barclaycard. I called support (card arrived with packaging completely opened and card floating around inside) using the number on the card. The guy who answered couldn’t locate me or my card on their system. Issue was resolved by him Skyping a colleague whilst I fed him the information that he (well his colleague) needed.

  Apparently I was the first Avios card customer he had ever dealt with.

  It all seems a bit like it’s being held together with sticky tape.

    I had a similar issue a couple of days ago, over several different phone calls. There were a couple of things which I picked up:
    1) I tended to speak with people from Barclays, rather than Barclaycard (and they don’t have access to Barclaycard systems “yet”). Whether that means that the wrong phone number is printed on the back of the cards is anyone’s guess….
    2) I spoke to the fraud team a few times as I kept getting transactions declined, and when they struggled to find any record of my card it turned out that they were the debit card fraud team, and not the one which dealt with credit cards…

    Sounds like a shambles. Not sure I want to sign up regardless of any avios points being up for grabs.

    I’ve had a few issues with my Honors Barclaycard and the customer service is abysmal. My card seems to get declined every few weeks but they can never explain why and it gets embarrassing and tedious.

      I’ve never had an issue with my Hilton Barclaycard.

        Fingers crossed I too have never had an issue with my Hilton Barclaycard. From the horror stories re the Avios card it sounds like I should be grateful I can’t switch 🙂

      Creation are already out of the UK market, so who can it be?

      The assumption of course being they plan to choose anyone. Maybe part of the deal with visa is tied up in this?

  Newday seems to be losing most of their affinity partners – Burtons , Debenhams , Office and other ex Arcadia brands now all gone (albeit by going bust) and now Amazon (which was always a slightly odd relationship given the difference in size of the two companies). Only really House of Fraser and a couple of others left now with Newday. One wonders whether they will have any left soon.
