Book a good IHG One Rewards redemption deal in Vienna

‘Vignette’ is IHG’s newest hotel brand. As we covered here, Vignette is IHG’s version of Hilton’s Curio, Marriott’s Autograph or Hyatt’s Unbound Collection.

Vignette – and Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott’s own versions of Vignette – all target upmarket hotels which want to remain independent but wish to become part of a ‘marketing system’. In return for IHG funnelling them bookings via ihg.com, the hotels agree to join IHG One Rewards and to honour member benefits.

The hotels keep their existing branding and the senior hotel management will not become IHG employees.

The first Vignette hotel opened late last year. Hotel X is in the centre of Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, Australia. To quote:

“Hotel X’s distinctive design and luxurious facilities celebrate this iconic Brisbane neighbourhood through ultra-cool art, Avant Garde lighting and exceptional views of the cityscape.”

Vignette is coming to Europe – with a generous redemption deal

More useful for HfP readers are three Vignette hotels which have been announced in Europe. These are:

• Grand Hotel Wien, Vienna, Austria (currently ‘Leading Hotels of the World’, image above)
• Penina Hotel & Golf Resort, Algarve, Portugal – joins IHG on 1st December
• Dona Filipa Hotel, Algarve, Portugal (a beach hotel) – joints IHG on 3rd July 2023

These hotels are all owned by the same company.

The first of these, Grand Hotel Wien, is now getting ready to switch to Vignette. The launch date is 1st August 2022.

There are currently some exceptionally good IHG One Rewards redemptions available at this hotel.

Reward nights are priced at 30,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

Even better, IHG isn’t just offering the cheapest room category at this price. It is also offering ‘Premium City View’ rooms for 30,000 points, which are 36-39 sq m.

These rooms sell for between €300 and €400 per night. This means that you could easily get over 1p per IHG One Rewards point, compared to our expected valuation of 0.4p.

30,000 points isn’t a mistake. We have seen similar pricing before with some new IHG hotels where the brand is presumably keen to get people to try it out, and possibly to show the owners that IHG One Rewards is capable of driving additional guests.
