Booking a points holiday in Mallorca – which is usually exceptional value given how expensive hotels get in July and August – is now easier.

Hilton has opened Hilton Mallorca Galatzo. The website is here.

Whilst I don’t know the area where it is based, it is described as a five-minute drive from the popular beaches of Paguera, on the Costa de la Calma.

This is a reflag of the Galatzo Hotel Mallorca. The hotel previously operated as a Maritim – see the picture below – but luckily it has had “substantial refurbishments to elevate the property’s interiors and facilities” since then.

To quote:

Picturesque pathways meander through 50,000 square metres of tropical gardens, connecting traditional Mallorcan round tower buildings, four diverse bars and restaurants and extensive leisure facilities which make it a destination in its own right. With a fusion of island architecture and contemporary design, each of the 208 rooms feature private balconies to take in the fresh sea air and embrace the Balearic climate. The resort will also soon be home to Cotton Club Mallorca, Cotton Lifestyle’s latest destination following its acclaimed Cotton Beach Club Ibiza and Cotton Club Zakynthos.

Tantalise tastebuds at one of the four dining areas, serving up the best of Mediterranean cuisine, with gourmet dishes inspired by the island’s historic fishing villages and local flavours. Start the day with breakfast and sweeping sunrise views from La Cocina, then head to Alma Restaurant & Bar for lunch or dinner to discover locally-inspired dining by well-known chef Eduardo Gandia, whilst enjoying lively entertainment. Here you can indulge in local specialities such as Mallorcan squid ‘a la bruta’, or sip on a Herbal Mediterranean digestive cocktail with Gin Mare, olive tonic, an old rosemary infusion and thyme to finish.

Those catching sun rays by the pool can enjoy Paradis Pool & Bar, where an extensive wine and cocktail offering includes a Mallorcan Prensal Blanc from the KM.1 eco wine range, and cocktails are prepared with local spirits and seasonal fruits. The accompanying menu of casual bites includes the delicious Santa Pinza, a crusty layered pizza-style dish with Stracciatella cheese, smoked salmon & capers.

The latest Cotton Lifestyle destination, Cotton Club Mallorca will seat 180 guests in a stylish signature designed restaurant and bar area with a 70 sunbed pool deck surrounding a first-class grand pool. It will be designed and run to the standards of its clubs in Ibiza and Zakynthos, where the brand’s success has been closely tied with its ability to create laid-back luxury living with a stunning style scheme, and provide outstanding service, great food, wine, and music.

Adventure-seekers will feel right at home at Hilton Mallorca Galatzo, with the property offering a range of sports and activities. From five clay tennis courts to a full-equipped gym, sauna and steam room as well as a spa with a tailored wellness program, guests will feel rejuvenated in no time. A kids club is also on offer for young travellers – guaranteed to keep children entertained for hours, giving parents the chance to explore the resort. For those wishing to venture further afield, resort team members are on hand to help curate guests’ perfect personalised Balearic adventure.

Prices are surprisingly low, possibly because it is opening so late in the season. Rooms are available in August for as low as €214 per night, and you’d receive free breakfast and a potential upgrade (probably a good chance if occupancy is low) if you had Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond status.

With cash rates low, redemptions using Hilton Honors points are not a bargain. However, remember that you get ‘five redemption nights for the points of four’ if you have Silver status or higher in Hilton Honors, and this is the sort of place where you are likely to spend five nights.

You can find our more on the Hilton Mallorca Galatzo website here.

PS. The other – potentially more anticipated – redemption option on Mallorca has been delayed. IHG’s Kimpton Mallorca is not showing availability until 24th August and of course may slip further. It may be worth considering for an early Autumn break if you are not tied to the school holidays. Cash rates start at €570 with redemptions starting at around 100,000 IHG One Rewards points. The website is here.

Having had a poke around on the Hilton website, the Hilton Mallorca Galatzo is running between 67-73k points per night at the moment, capping out at 80k per night. I imagine that 80k is what it will end up as during peak times in future.

Having actually stayed atet eh Hilton Galatzo this weekend (Thu-Sun), I can say it is a very nice hotel, with some initial teething problems. My Hilton preferences were ignored (connecting door), which were then rectified with an upgrade to a suite (I am diamond). First two days were lovely, hotel was quiet, attentive service, but then large number of guests arrived and pool was mobbed. Also they ran out of towels at the pool side.

If you don’t have kids, I would recommend the nearby Iberostar Garden del Sol. But as stated, great value for a points redemption.

    • Rob says:

      Thanks Frank.

    • Simon says:

Hey Frank. Any other thoughts ? We are heading there en famille later in August for a few days. How mobbed is the pool ? Are we talking 6am towel patrol or no where to sit ?!

      • Frank says:

It was busy when I left yesterday, the pool was too full for me to have a swim. It seemed the ordered beach towels for poolside had not arrived, as a mix of towel designs were being used. There seemed enough beds, but the hotel was not at capacity for sure.

        • Simon says:

Thankyou. Planning a couple of beach clubs to get out about anyway. Hopefully in the next few weeks they can sort out some of the teething troubles.

  • Jan says:

Just left the hotel today. A couple of days ago we were there by ourselves at 10 am, however, today it was almost full house. I would probably expect it being more busy in August.

  • Ian says:

Frank – What was the food like at the Hilton Galatzo and how much was it? Looking at the hotel website it’s only showing as bed and breakfast, and when travelling with kids we normally go half board.

Also what is the area like, is there much within walking distance or do you need a car?
