Welcome to our regular round-up of the best hotel promotions currently running.

We dropped this feature for two months because of a lack of offers, but with a lot now going on we thought we needed to get you up to date.

All of the information in this article can also be found on our ‘Hotel Offers’ page which contains details of all of the current offers, together with links to our major articles on each hotel scheme.  However, a positive response from readers – especially our 17,000 email subscribers – means we run this monthly article as a handy summary.

Here are quick summaries and links to the registration pages you need for each offer – do it before you forget. (I apologise to email readers if this block is mangled – scroll down to the main text area.)

The first promotion offers double Hilton Honors base points on all stays between 1st January and 30th April.  The second promotion offers 1,000 bonus points for every different brand you stay at during the period.

Current American Express cashback offers

It’s also worth noting the current American Express cashback offers with the big chains. These may be showing on one or more of your cards and may influence which hotels you book this month.

In both cases, you are restricted to a list of participating hotels.

Where should you credit your stays for March 2023?

Remember that, irrespective of the offers below, there is never a single ‘best’ offer.

Some offers require multiple stays to maximise the bonus, which you might not do. Some require stays to be a minimum number of nights before a bonus is earned.

You need to factor in any elite status you have, which will earn you additional status bonuses.

More importantly, you need to be able to use the points. There is no value in earning a large bonus in a scheme where you will never go on to earn enough points to get a free night.

Hilton (Hampton, Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria etc)

Hilton is running two offers rolled into one. You only need to register once.

The points offer is called ‘Double Up And Explore’.  You can register here.  Our full article is here. It runs until 30th April.

You will earn double base points on all stays and a further 1,000 bonus points on top for every different Hilton Honors brand you stay at during the period. The extra 1,000 points begin from your first stay.

You need to register in advance of your first stay during the period via the Hilton website here.  Existing bookings count and all Hilton Honors hotels are taking part.

The Hilton booking page is here.

IHG One Rewards new offers

IHG (InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo etc)

Between 9th February and 14th April, you can earn bonus base points on your IHG One Rewards stays.

You must register in advance via this link.

You will receive 2,000 bonus points for every two nights you stay during the promotional period. The nights do NOT need to be consecutive.

In terms of counting ‘nights’, reward nights do not count. This is different from the way that IHG usually counts ‘nights’ in terms of earning elite status or milestone rewards.

Existing bookings DO count so there is no need to rebook anything.

Current Marriott Bonvoy promotions

Marriott Bonvoy (Renaissance, The Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, Westin, W, Aloft, St Regis, Luxury Collection, Moxy etc)

Between 7th February and 23rd April, you will earn 1,000 bonus points per NIGHT and double elite night credits on every cash stay at a Marriott hotel.

I value a Bonvoy point at 0.5p so this is equivalent to a £5 bonus per night.  It is clearly a better deal on cheap one-night stays than expensive week-long holidays.

For many readers, the double elite night credits will be more important, allowing you to get a head start on status requalification for next year.

Our full article is here. You can register here. Note that registration closes early on 9th April.

world of hyatt narrow

Hyatt (inc Alila, Andaz, Thomson, Unbound Collection, Miraval)

World of Hyatt has a new promotion running from 20th March (so it isn’t active yet) to 26th May.

It is a very simple one – you will earn 3,000 bonus World of Hyatt points for every two nights you stay.

There is one catch. Your first stay after registration does not count. This is not ideal if you have a long Hyatt stay coming up and may encourage you to do a mattress run.

Reward nights DO count. The nights do not need to be consecutive.

You must register by 30th April.

As well as Hyatt-branded hotels, it is also valid at participating M life Rewards destinations, Small Luxury Hotels of the World hotels and Lindblad Expeditions.

The home page for bookings is here.

  • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

I had my first IHG stay last week under the 2k/2 nights offer and the points posted the same time as those of the stay did in the ”bonus” section.

On the web version each set of 2 nights was show individually so two entries of 2k.

  • Matt says:

Is there a reason that there don’t seems to be involvement of Irish IHG in recent offers? Looked at two different offers this year for different visits and they are never participating. Is this a long term trend I missed?

  • Andrew says:

    Hi Rob,
My Marriott account had no activity since COVID and the expiry of points was due on 31-12-22 as MBonvoy did pause the points expiration to 31 Dec 22 for all members.
However I received 100k points in my account on 30/1/23 and Marriott has expired those points on 01/03/23. I am heartbroken to lose 100k points in a short period of time and I wonder if this is a correct policy of Marriott to expire points regardless after 31 Dec 22?
Does this mean that any points that hit my account is now automatically expired? Thank you for your help.

    • Rob says:

Something wrong there! You need to contact them. Obviously all new earnings are protected for a period.

The only exception may be if you had made a reward booking with expiring points and then cancelled it after the original points used would have expired, but that is still odd. That said, Lufthansa does this if you cancel a booking made with expiring points.

      • Andrew says:

        Hi Rob,
Here is below transaction history on my account:

        03/01/2023
        Other Points Expiration
        -100,050 Points
        01/30/2023
        BonusPOINTS SHARING+100,000 Points

As you can see my good lady transferred 100k to me on 30 Jan 23 and Marriott has expired those points on 01 March 23. I am totally speechless and I have not even made any bookings or redeem any points / cancelled.
I have contacted them yesterday and they told me due to no activity on the account they have expired and there is nothing they can do.
Also they told me they have send an email about expiration of points which I have not received.
        I am absolutely furious.

        • Rob says:

Ok. Sharing does not count as earning for resetting expiry so technically Marriott is correct. You have not ‘earned’ points in the required time so your balance expires.

          • Andrew says:

            Thank you Rob.

          • Andrew says:

Hello Rob, A positive update from Marriott on my side. I had contacted the corporate headquarters on a phone number provided by Marriott customer service and I have received a phone call back with a good news that they have extended the expiry date of my account to 3 more months and credited back the 100k points. I must admit they were quick in contacted me back and they did not even asked any questions and they were happy to help.
            Very impressed with Marriott!

          • Rob says:

Good result. It seems the right thing to do in the circumstances.

      • ankomonkey says:

In this case, Rob, do you think/know if buying points to make the account active again would save the expired points when cancelling the redemption you were using to hold them in?

        Has anyone done this successfully?

  • Andrew says:

Has anyone received any communication from Marriott regarding points expiration. All points expiration were paused / extended due to COVID to 31 Dec 2022?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Yes but it’s 2023 now so they’ll expire unless you earn

  • Nick G says:

    Rob

Any update from Emyr re Hilton offers (3 for 2, 4 for 3 etc) for this year. I know the last offer runs out 31st March 2023.

    • Rob says:

      Not asked. Will do.

    • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

There’s one on. I received a flyer about it from my agent. The WAs and Conrads in Europe definitely participating; as was WA Dubai Palm though I used points instead.

      • Nick G says:

Is that until March this year though or from March 2023 onwards?
