IHG One Rewards has announced a new global promotion following a fallow few weeks.

IHG One Rewards is the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo among other brands.

You need to register here.

How does IHG’s new bonus points promotion work?

The offer runs from 12th October to 31st December.

You must register in advance via this link. Registration is now open.

What will you earn?

As you can see:

IHG One Rewards autumn promotion

…. you will earn 2,000 bonus points for every two cash nights you stay during the offer period.

Reward stays do not count.

Existing bookings DO count so there is no need to rebook anything.  Only one room per stay counts towards the offer, so if you are booking multiple rooms you should put each in a different name.

What is the bonus worth?

The standard earning rate in IHG One Rewards is 10 points per US$1 (83p) excluding taxes.  I value an IHG One Rewards point at 0.4p although you can often do better, which means your base return is 4p per 83p spent, ie just under 5.0%.

Of course, most HfP readers will have some sort of IHG One Rewards status.  This comes with a status bonus (applies to base points only):

  • 20% bonus for Silver Elite
  • 40% bonus for Gold Elite
  • 60% bonus for Platinum Elite
  • 100% bonus for Diamond Elite
IHG One Rewards Summer promotion

Under this offer, and assuming you do an exact multiple of two nights, you get an extra 1,000 points (£4) per night.

This means that the offer is heavily geared towards people doing low value stays at, say, Holiday Inn Express-style hotels. There isn’t much here for anyone planning a week at InterContinental Maldives.

Conclusion

£4 of bonus points per night is unlikely to move your needle much, even if they are all at a Holiday Inn Express.

That said, clearly you’d be silly not to register – click here to register – if you will do the nights anyway.

The offer kicks in for stays from 12th October but you can register today.

  • Tariq says:

Assume this type of offer would work on a 2nt stay that includes an Ambassador Free Weekend Night? Since technically both nights are ‘cash’ rates?

  • Pj92 says:

How often are there bonuses on signing up to IHG Ambassador? Looking to sign up but worried I’ll do it and a bonus would then come along.

    • NorthernLass says:

Are they still offering 15k points? That’s usually as good as it gets.

    • Peter says:

They stopped the Diamond extension with Ambassador, so it became significantly less attractive.

      • DanATC says:

The Diamond extension with Ambassador worked for me last week…

        • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

And you much have just got in before it changed.

          • DanATC says:

When did it change? I signed up on 20th Sept and got the extension, that same day One Mile At A Time published an article saying Diamond extensions had stopped working for the last couple of weeks. Seems inconsistent.

          • DanATC says:

Ignore my other message, my actual renewal was 13th Sept which many are saying was date of the change. Very lucky timing!

      • Numpty says:

Have Ambassador, and when my Diamond status renewed earlier this year it renewed at Diamond until end of 2024. That’s with very few stays.

  • Gareth says:

I can’t seem to find offer when I follow the link. The app comes up but nothing about the offer.

    • Ruralite says:

We received a IHG email to register yesterday. It didn’t show in the offers tab in the App until registered via the email link, so maybe a targeted promo?

      • Rob says:

        Not targeted.

        • Gareth says:

I still can’t find this deal, no email. Are you certain it’s not targeted?

          • Rob says:

I mean … if you’re on a desktop (or you delete the IHG app from your phone) you’ll be taken directly to the sign-up page via the link in the article.

  • Ash says:

I have 6 rooms to book for the same night, same hotel, how should I book it maximise the offer? Book each room individually through my IHG app and allocate a different main guest name to each? Ending up with 6 separate bookings, 6 different main guest names, but with the same IHG membership number on all of them?

  • The real Swiss Tony says:

The problem seems to be if you open this on a mobile with the app installed, it goes to the app and can’t find the offer.

Opening the link on a desktop seems to resolve the issue (at least it did for me).

    • Chris Cannon says:

Thanks. Was having exact same experience

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

You can change your settings on your phone for how clicking through links works and if they should open in web version of (if you have it) the app

  • Philip says:

I used the link last year to get Diamond elite and paid for Ambassador to extend it to the end of this year. I’ve only earned silver this year was wondering it I continued with ambassador would it keep at diamond elite or not?
