We have been big fans of the Capital on Tap Business Rewards Visa credit card for small businesses for many years, and a lot of our SME-owning readers have taken one out. Earning points worth 1 Avios per £1 spent and with NO FX fees, it is an attractive package.

Capital on Tap has added a new credit card to its small business portfolio – Capital on Tap Pro.

The Capital on Tap Pro card offers everything you get with the Capital on Tap Business Rewards card with some extra travel-related benefits on top.

As well as reward points which convert 1:1 to Avios, with the Pro card you will also get:

  • Unlimited free access to 1,600+ airport lounges via Priority Pass for the main cardholder
  • Two free guest lounge passes per year and guest discounts
  • Radisson Rewards VIP hotel status
  • A premium metal card
  • Dedicated 24/7 customer support

Capital on Tap credit cards also come with NO FX fees and earn points worth 1 Avios per £1 spent.

To celebrate its launch, Capital on Tap is giving HfP readers an EXCLUSIVE offer to earn up to 30,000 bonus points.

The offer is running until midnight on Monday 9th December. You need to be a director or shareholder of a limited company or LLP to take part. Sole traders cannot hold the card unfortunately.

Your 30,000 bonus points convert at 1:1 into Avios or into 1p of cash. This means you can receive up to 30,000 Avios or £300 as a sign-up bonus or redeem these points for e-gift cards!

You can apply here.

How does the sign-up bonus work?

You can earn your 30,000 bonus Capital on Tap points in two stages.

First, when you get the Capital on Tap Pro credit card by Monday 9th December, you will get a 10,000 points bonus when you make your first transaction. You’d simply need to buy something as small as a coffee and 10,000 bonus points will be dropped into your account. (You’ll also earn points for buying the coffee as normal!)

To get a further 20,000 points bonus, new cardholders are required to spend £30,000 on their card within the first three months.

For some SME owners, spending £30,000 in three months will not be a problem. However, if you can’t meet this target, you will still get 10,000 bonus points just for making one transaction with your new metal Pro card.

Remember that you need to select the £299 per year Pro card after you’ve applied to get this offer.

How to apply for the Capital on Tap Pro Visa card

This is a HfP exclusive offer, so you MUST apply via this link.

Applications made through the standard Capital on Tap home page will not receive the extra bonus.

Do you qualify for these offers?

Readers who are directors or shareholders of a business which is incorporated in the UK as a limited company or LLP are eligible to apply for the Capital on Tap card.

You may qualify for a Capital on Tap credit card if:

  • the business is active on Companies House
  • the business has a minimum monthly turnover of £2,000
  • there are no unsatisfied CCJs against you or your business in the last 12 months

At present, sole traders and regular partnerships cannot apply.

These offers are only available to new Capital on Tap customers.

Can’t spend £30,000 in three months?

Don’t worry – I’m not sure HfP could either!

The good news is that Capital on Tap is also running a 20,000 points (=20,000 Avios) offer with HfP on the £99 Capital on Tap Business Rewards credit card.

You can read about this offer here and the application form is here.

The Business Rewards card offer requires your business to spend £15,000 in three months.

(Our last promotion on the Business Rewards card had a £20,000 spend requirement. If you couldn’t manage that, you may be able to manage £15,000 in three months this time.)

What are the benefits of the new Capital on Tap Pro Visa?

Let’s look at the benefits of the Pro card in detail:

Airport lounge access via Priority Pass

Most HfP readers will be familiar with Priority Pass, which gets you access to 1,600 airport lounges globally.

Importantly, this is a ‘full fat’ Priority Pass which INCLUDES the £18 airport restaurant credits – unlike any Priority Pass issued by American Express.

There are many airport restaurants (the UK list is in an article here) which offer £18 off drinks or food to Priority Pass members, but American Express has opted out of offering this. The Capital on Tap Pro version lets you tuck in!

Additional guests can join you in a lounge for £20 each per visit. This is automatically charged to your Capital on Tap Pro Visa account balance as a card transaction. This is £4 cheaper than the guest fee charged by American Express.

TOP TIER hotel status with Radisson Rewards

This is VERY interesting, and may justify the cost of Capital on Tap Pro on its own.

There are many credit cards which offer hotel elite status – this HfP article contains a full list. However, none of them offer TOP TIER status.

With Radisson Rewards VIP status, you have the highest publicly available status level.

Radisson Rewards VIP status is hard to earn on its own. You would need to stay 20 times or complete 30 nights in a calendar year to get it, which isn’t easy given the Radisson footprint.

The benefits are:

  • Upgrade to the best room category available at the time of check-in – this does not usually include suites but some properties do offer this
  • Free breakfast for two
  • Access to VIP lounges and other areas which some hotels reserve for VIP cardholders
  • Earn 36 points per $1 of pre-tax spend (vs 8 points per $1 for a no-status member)
  • One free piece of ironing per stay (selected brands only)
  • Early check-in and late check-out if available
  • 15% off food and drink spending
  • Access to ‘Discount Booster’, allowing you to receive an additional cash discount on your booking – up to 20% – in return for earning a lower rate of points

Whilst Radisson Rewards points are not hugely valuable these days (around 0.15p each), you shouldn’t dismiss the value of Radisson Rewards VIP status. Free breakfast alone would save you £40+ per day for two people, and the upgrade to the best available room category at check-in isn’t to be sniffed at.

What other benefits does the Capital on Tap Pro Visa card have?

The following additional reasons apply to both the new Capital on Tap Pro Visa card and the Capital on Tap Business Rewards Visa card:

  • They are Visa cards. Capital on Tap credit cards are Visa cards, making them the ONLY Visa or Mastercard cards that allow a business to earn Avios (and, of course, are much more widely accepted than American Express for B2B transactions).
  • You earn 1 Capital on Tap point per £1 you spend on the card.  There are no restrictions on how many points you can earn or redeem – it’s just based on how much you spend on your card.
  • Redemption options. Capital on Tap points can be redeemed for 1 Avios per point, 1p cashback, or gift cards at household retailers like Amazon and John Lewis. The points are instantly redeemable, which means that as soon as your card transaction clears you’ll see your points and can spend them.
  • You can preload your account so you can spend beyond your credit limit and earn points on every purchase – no need to spend time repaying every time you get close to the limit.
  • You won’t pay FX fees abroad or if you pay for anything in the UK in another currency. These are the only Avios-earning credit cards, personal or business, which do not charge foreign exchange fees when used abroad.
  • You get quick points transfers to Avios.  Capital on Tap has virtually instantaneous transfers of points into Avios.  They reach your British Airways Executive Club account as soon as you’ve completed a transfer from your Capital on Tap account. There is no risk of missing out on that reward seat.
  • You can cash in your points. If you decide you don’t want any more Avios at any time, Capital on Tap will let you cash-in your non-transferred points for 1p per point of real money. If you choose to redeem your points for cash instead of Avios, you should take tax advice on how the cash should be treated – HMRC does not tax points or miles.
Capital on Tap Pro Card

On top of these benefits, as a cardholder you would also get:

  • Unlimited cards for your company, for free
  • A credit facility of up to £250,000
  • Up to 42 days to pay before interest is incurred on card purchases
  • No UK ATM fees
  • Accounting integrations with Sage, QuickBooks, Xero and more
  • Discounts at Expedia, Hertz and Superscript

What are the fees and interest rate?

The annual fee for the Capital on Tap Pro credit card is £299. This gives you Priority Pass lounge access and VIP status in Radisson Rewards on top of everything offered by the Capital on Tap Business Rewards credit card.

The annual fee for the standard Capital on Tap Business Rewards credit card is £99.

Remember the fees for both are tax deductible! You need to decide if the additional Pro benefits and the higher sign-up bonus are worth the additional (tax deductible) Pro fee.

Your interest rate is based on your business profile and can be as low as 15.22% APR (variable).

Conclusion

Our Capital on Tap offers have always been appealing to the many HfP readers with their own business.

The addition of airport lounge access and Radisson Rewards VIP status, alongside the ability to earn Avios, makes the new Pro Visa card a very interesting option – especially as the £299 annual fee would be tax deductible.

Some business owners reading this may already have a British Airways Accelerating Business American ExpressAmerican Express Business Platinum or American Express Business Gold. You should still consider Capital on Tap Pro or Capital on Tap Business Rewards in addition to your Amex as it is ideal for use outside the UK (due to 0% FX fees) and at places where American Express is not accepted.

You must apply by midnight on Monday 9th December.
