EXCLUSIVE: Cork Airport to lose its only lounge at the end of June

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

The Aspire lounge at Cork Airport is to close at the end of June.

This is not yet reflected on the Priority Pass website but if you attempt to book entry for cash on the Aspire website you will see that it is not possible.

This will hit those Aer Lingus passengers who qualify to use the lounge. There are no other lounges at the airport.

Cork Airport to lose its only lounge at the end of June

We understand that the airport requires the space currently occupied by the lounge in order to increase its security screening area. This has been brought on by the requirement to install next-generation scanners which allow liquids and electronics to remain in bags.

Whilst the airport is currently in the middle of an expansion, we understand that Aspire has not been offered a new space due to the lack of potential locations once you go airside.

Nothing will change until the end of June, however, so you can continue to enjoy it for now. Reader feedback on the lounge has always been positive, given the small size of the airport itself.

PS. Remember that in November 2023, Aer Lingus removed lounge access for all British Airways Club elite members flying from Shannon or Cork. British Airways Club elite members were previously allowed to use these lounges when flying on Aer Lingus, but ONLY if flying to London.

I’m sure the Cork Independent has covered this exclusive 🤣

  • Dave says:

I was there two weeks ago and the (wonderful) staff there told me they were closing for refurbishment and their jobs were safe, shame if this is not the case it was a lovely little lounge

  • Nick G says:

Gutted going there in a few months was planning on using it. PP is becoming so unreliable but like when I turned up at Berlin and couldn’t use it at the NU made with love restaurant, then PP reinstated it later

  • Michael C says:

So it closes precisely…5 days before we’re there!! Hope the flight’s on
    time…

    • JDB says:

@MichaelC – you will survive and live to tell the tale! We travelled through ORK dozens of times long before lounges were a thing and somehow we all coped even though the flights were most unreliable owing to fog and crosswinds there.

The world seems to have gone a bit lounge/status crazy.

Some people here talk about the LHR T3 lounges as if they were going to visit the new look Notre Dame or the Taj Mahal and others suggest that a lounge ‘safari’ there might be an exciting expedition like going to the Serengeti! The reality is a tad different!

  • GM says:

So sad about this. Go there less frequently since Aer Lingus dropped the route and have to rely on Ryanair squeezing some flights into the schedule, but they were always so pleasant there and it was a great place to wait before the flight. Never got turned away with Priority Pass either, and the food was decent!

  • Phil G says:

I’m really not surprised as when we flew from there the lady manning the desk didn’t want to let anyone in. Even people who had bookings were unceremoniously booted out if they hadn’t printed out their reservation. It was entertaining watching her come up with excuses why she wasn’t letting them in.

  • Edward says:

Another brilliant example of forward thinking when constructing the current terminal

  • Suzanne says:

Was there in February and it was awful, waste of money.
