NEW: Get 6,000 points when you add a free Amex Gold supplementary card

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

American Express has launched a special offer for anyone who holds the American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card and who has never added a free supplementary cardholder.

Until 21st May, the bonus for adding your first supplementary card is doubled to 6,000 Membership Rewards points.

There is no spend target to hit on the supplementary card.

Get 6,000 points when you add a free supplementary card to your Amex Gold

The only bit of small print to note is that “bonus points will appear in at least two instalments of 3,000 and 3,000” points.

Your first supplementary card is free so this is a very easy pile of points.

This offer is only available on the FIRST supplementary card added to your American Express account. If you already have a supplementary card in issue, you will not get the bonus if you add another one to the same account.

You MUST use this page of the American Express website to apply.

Other cards also have supplementary card bonuses

Whilst no other card is running a special offer at the moment, the usual bonuses – as long as you apply via the link above – are available on other key American Express cards when you add your FIRST supplementary card:

  • The Platinum Card – 5,000 Membership Rewards points
  • The American Express Rewards Credit Card – 2,000 Membership Rewards points
  • British Airways American Express – 1,000 Avios
  • British Airways American Express Premium Plus – 3,000 Avios
  • Marriott Bonvoy American Express – 3,000 Marriott Bonvoy points
  • Nectar Credit Card – 3,000 Nectar points
  • The Harrods American Express Card – 1,000 Harrods Rewards points
  • Platinum Cashback / Platinum Cashback Everyday – £5

How long does the offer run?

The special offer on American Express Preferred Rewards Gold runs to 21st May.

If you have never issued a supplementary card in the past on your current Amex Gold card, now is as good a time as you will get.

You must use this special page of the American Express website to add your supplementary card. If you use any other page of the Amex website, your bonus will not track.

Any similar benefits for Gold Business Charge Card?

    • Erico1875 says:

I got 3000 points for adding my wife. They did phone me to offer it, so not sure if it was targeted

    • Tariq says:

Yes, saw app message a week or so ago, points posted within 24 hours, before card had even arrived.

    • Axel says:

Apply and find out. It’s a win-win scenario

  • Angel says:

I issued 3 supplementary cards on my business gold, first gave me 6k, next 2 cards gave me 3k points each. I think they are all free (or at least I hope so)

  • Charlie says:

I’ve just tried doing this using the link supplied – but it keeps on defaulting to offering a supplementary card for my BA Premium Plus Card, not the Gold Preferred Rewards Card.

  • Pablo says:

Recently added the supps on both my platinum cards – personal * 1 and business * 3. Personal went through fine but keep getting requests for ID verification for the ‘employees’ on the business card. Done this many times in the past with no checks at all so worth bearing this in mind (I may have added my 5 year olds name to get his first pretend amex….)

  • Pat says:

OT: Are the amounts different that are paid by PP vs LoungeKey? I’ve come across a lounge that accepts the latter only. I thought they’re both Collinson products and the exception for restaurants and bars is down to what’s behind LK and PP (eg when it’s not Amex). The terminal they use is identical.
