Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Alternative ways to redeem Airtime Rewards?

  • 854 posts

HFP team, feel free to move this into a more appropriate place.

I have built up a nice Airtime Reward balance, more than I need against my (and family member’s) mobile bills for a while. I am with O2 and wondered if there are other ways I can redeem those rewards?

It looks like I can pay for my digital purchase through my mobile bill. O2 sell tech items is there a way to get the payment via my mobile bill? Thanks.

You can request a Paypal payment of £50 per month

I contacted them and they offered to send some of it by paypal.

They also offered to redeem to a gift card for a selection of the usual UK affiliate chains i.e. Sainsbury’s, John Lewis, H&M, River Island, Prezzo etc (you get a code which gives you credit on a website where you can “buy” the gift cards, there were about 30 shops available)

I’m with Virgin Mobile and the only option I get is to transfer to my bank account when my cleared balance reaches a minimum of £20, which suits me just fine.

Sometimes the option for me to withdraw to card is available, maybe charging the network you are with enables

They told me this is only available for people who registered before 2020 – is this the case with you?

Recently Airtime had issues with redemptions on the Vodafone network, so they enabled the ability to transfer back to a card on your account, it was £20 or £30 per request and £50 in total per month. This also failed for me (across multiple cards) but the Vodafone redemptions have worked again since 1 April.
Good to know they will transfer to PayPal otherwise I’d be waiting some time before I’m paying a phone bill in the traditional way again.

I reached out to Airtime, they replied this morning. and said there were no alternative way to withdraw beside via mobile credit. I’m with o2 if that makes a difference?

Similar to @Reney they said the option to withdraw to card is only available to “members whose networks are not supported but were at the time of them signing up to the app.” I have built quite a bit of credit with them and have been redeeming for my wife who’s with O2 given my Three contract has been fully paid ages ago. I think I am gonna switch to O2 as well because of the roaming in the EU and use my credit with them.

Virgin Media who now own 02 also have free roaming around the EU too and you currently have to withdraw to a registered card as the Virgin Mobile network isn’t currently supported with Airtime Rewards.

Likewise. Being told by Airtime they no longer do PayPal withdrawals, unless on a Corporate mobile contract or redemptions stuck ‘pending’.
Disappointed, as I have a healthy credit balance I’ll have to persist with redeeming! On. Vodafone fwiw.

Just seen reported on MoneySavingExpert, due to a temp problem Vodafone customers can withdraw Airtime credit directly into their bank account.

Doesn’t benefit those on other network, but thought I would mention it here.

Handy tip knowing the problems with Vodafone, thanks. My provide isn’t supported and I’ve built up a small pot. Changed my provider to Vodafone and withdrew £30. Will withdraw more next month

I took out a handful of Three SIMs for £3 each per month. Can draw £20 to the Three account per SIM per month, when I’ve built up enough balance I’ll request a refund from Three.

My AR rewards balance keeps going up, currently sat at c. £600 *gulp*

Have you actually received refunds from Three before?

Yes, 3 or 4 times, if one rep says no, keep trying until you get someone who doesn’t care and it’ll work

How do people build up so much credit with Airtime Rewards? I’m fairly new to it but with the very limited range of retailers I’m struggling to reach the minimum £10 for redemption! Do you do lots of spending at Argos and Wilko’s or something? Or Gregg’s?

They’ve recently launched a gift card option at 4% reward which is handy to use in combination with monthly challenges, bonus codes etc

I suspect for a lot of us, we brought a lot of gift cards at Morrisons whenever it comes on Airtime as it stacks with other cashback on cards.

Spent several £k’s at Morrisons over the last 2 years on cards (7-10%) and then plenty of high spends at Argos / Boots to keep it topped up. Total probably touching £3k redeemed / to be

    Help requested as a newbie.

I have a £100+ balance which I am looking to redeem.

I am with Vodafone, my bill is £24pcm.

Is it possible to do 10 x £10 redemptions, and then my Vodafone account simply goes into credit balance? Or is there a better approach?

    Thanks.

    @willie

My experience with Vodafone, when it works, is I cannot redeem more than 2x £10 per calendar month.

I’ve been fortunate a couple of times to cash out via PayPal, when contacting them when they’ve had technical issues, and they’ve allowed that route instead, with £20 and £30 withdrawals in one month.

How do you do this? Just contact in the app?

Also there used to be a similar scheme with Virgin. Does this still exist? I can’t find it anywhere…

I’m with Virgin Mobile and so transfer my balance when it hits £10 into my Revolut account as there is no option to transfer the funds from Airtime Rewards direct to Virgin.
