Morning folkes, my renewal date is 6th June, presumably the best time to try for a retention offrr is the week or so before ?
My renewal was on the 3rd May and just been offered the same 10K for 5k spend in 6 months.
Got this week the offer of 12k Avios for £3000 spend in 6 months. Will do that in a month so nice Avios bonus 🙂

Same here, fairly happy as intending to keep the card anyway and still have a chunk of council tax to pay which will cover a lot the spend!
This was the 2nd time I asked, which might be worth noting, the first time I was offered a £50 credit for £15k spend which I politely declined.

Just a sneaky thought…. Has anyone earned their bonus and then downgraded anyway? My renewal is not until Feb and I have already hit spend target for companion voucher (benefits of paying for group bookings 🤣)

Nothing stops you downgrading after receiving the bonus. Make sure the bonus actually moves to your BAC account. And have another Amex to pay for the flight if using the voucher.

In the “sales pitch” for the retention, the AMEX representative also dropped in a reference to the “additional” 4,500 avios I would earn after 6 months. We had a bit of a to and fro on this as I felt the use of the word “additional” was a bit disingenuous after he had clarified that the 4,500 avios are “standard” avios and not a “bonus”, meaning I would have earned this anyway, offer or no offer, by merely continuing to spend on the card (£3K at an earn rate of 1.5 avios per £1 gives 4,500 avios).
Genuinely very kind and helpful folks at AMEX, including the above representative, but absolutely no need to make things look any rosier than they are… as most people here are testifying, we would gladly accept the 12k without any more fluff or fuss!
Had exactly the same conversation today as @havepointswillfly above. Happy to accept the additional 12k Avios retention offer but do they really have to give it all the flannel about the ‘extra’ 4.5k that isn’t extra really 🤷♂️ mildly infuriating…
