This was my email from Barclaycard:

Currently waiting for call handler to speak to “specialist team” about this. Given the level of the responses so far, I am not at all surprised that our HH cards have been so fruitful all these years!

After an hour of being on hold and passed around departments, been told a new card and PIN will be issued. Queried whether a new PIN is actually necessary. “Hold on, I will check. Oh no, don’t destroy the PIN you already received, you need that one.”
    Just about sums it up!

    Very similar experience for me.

There is a long version of this sorry tale, but the short version is that my card hasn’t arrived and after 1 hour and 21 mins on the phone to Barclays (as there are no Barclaycard phone lines) I was told that my card was sent out on 1 March 2022 and has not been activated. A new card is being sent and should arrive “within 5 working days”.

They wouldn’t talk about the £20 fee this month and given that I had already wasted nearly 1.5 hours, I wasn’t inclined to press it then.

    Not a good start.

Like others, they said my card was sent on 1/3, so have cancelled it and sent a new one. Not sure how many cards can get lost, though…

Maybe the ‘100% recycled plastic’ they use for the cards is sourced from St Petersburg and they’ve had trouble shipping it over?

That was my Tweet quoted. After a call this morning, £20 fee refunded, £30 credit applied to account. Like others, they said my card was sent on 1/3, so have cancelled it and sent a new one. Not sure how many cards can get lost, though…

Hmmm so it looks like some people are able to get the first month back and some sort of compensation. I guess it depends on how cooperative the rep is.

It seems that there is a lot of mess about when the clock starts for the SUP.

I’m one the lucky ones who received the card. It was March 7. I applied for the day it was released.

The SUP countdown bar in my Barclays app says I need to spend the 3k by May 30th.

So at least for me the clock had started when they approved my application on “Feb 30”.

I laughed quite hard for this one :))

🤣. It might explain a lot if they were diarising things for that date.

Starting to think it’s not worth the effort. Might leave it a few days in the hope Barclays admit there’s a problem and pro-actively reissue the cards that were never sent.

Just concerned about the monthly fee. As I have no visibility of the account, I’ve no idea if a statement has been generated yet.

It really isn’t worth it for someone looking for a new card, but for those of us who applied and got accepted, it’s a bit of a catch 22 as we already have the hard search on our credit files. I would say it’s worth trying to persevere in that case.

But there is a limit to people’s patience and how much they are prepared to be messed about. For me personally, Barclaycard are on a knife edge. I won’t hesitate to give them the chop.

It seems everyone has been hit with the £20 fee for March.
The phone agent told me this would be applied whether the card has been received or not.
Sounds like we should be able to get this refunded eventually but may need to proactively ask.

I would hope Barclays soon realise that there are many people impacted by this ‘glitch’ and they themselves take steps to resolve and offer some goodwill gesture.

This. To be fair, I am sure it will be worth the wait for me, it allows me to start the 24month clock on Amex and it has a cracking credit limit. Just seems like such an unnecessarily crappy start, right from the very outset.

Just spent an hour on the phone, yep, card had never been sent! This is despite receiving the PIN on 9th March, so that card has been ordered today and should receive in 3-5 days. CS agent couldn’t understand why it wasn’t linking to my Barclays current account and not visible in the Barclays app either, but think I will save that issue for another day! Would recommend anyone who was approved on 28 Feb and received a PIN on/around 9 March to call as I don’t think your card is coming…

Actually I don’t think I’ve been hit with the first fee, but I could be wrong. I’m really going to oppose any charge for a card I cannot use. So Barclays should think carefully before imposing it on their customers.

Not much to add other than I’m having the exact same issues as everyone else. Accepted on 2 March, “our cards are flying off the shelves” nonsense text on 8 March, received PIN on 9 March. No sign of card and it’s not showing in my Barclays account despite being an existing Premier customer.

Just spent over an hour on the phone – agent didn’t seem to know what she was doing as she kept asking me for a sort code and account number, despite me saying multiple times that I was calling about a credit card.

Card has allegedly been reissued, another 5 working days (will believe it when I see it) apparently. No mention of the monthly fee or any kind of statement credit. I’m moving in two weeks and don’t love the idea of a credit card turning up at my old address, but here we are.

Absolutely shambolic so far, but glad I’m not the only one having these issues. This alleged “special sign up bonus” coming at the end of the month should apply to all existing applicants as compensation for these ridiculous issues.

… and how can a card launched in 2022 not work with Apple Pay?!

This is turning into a disaster. Similarly accepted 2 weeks ago. I have a pin number and now getting statements but no card. Today alone 1 hour on hold and the service is pitiful, on a par with creation. For this I am paying £20 a month!!!!

Saturday on call for 30 minutes to clueless staff and then cut off but of course no call back nothing. Hugely frustrating.

Just spent 55 minutes before getting through. Lady said that it was taking 8-10 working days for them to be despatched, but couldn’t explain why. Said to try again if I’ve not received it by the end of the week. Told her that they shouldn’t quote 3-5 working days if that is the case.

Twitter customer service apologised for the delay but confirmed it had been sent and to give it some more time. Not convinced…….

Twitter customer service told me they aren’t able to check on the status of applications and cards due to being unable to handle security checks through social media.
As suggested earlier, anyone who applied in the first 2 or 3 days should ring up and have them send a new card through.

Just contacted Barclays using the Apple Message thing (which does handle security checks) only to be told the card was sent on the 1st March and must be lost in the post.

Turns out they can’t order replacement cards through Apple Messages so I was told to use the app or online banking to request a new card. Given I can’t register for the app without the card and don’t have other Barclays accounts for online banking, looks like I’ll have to phone up.

Earlier today: called to note card not received. Rep said they’ll cancel the old card, and a new card (with a new set of trailing digits) will be sent out within 2-3 days.
This evening: Email: “Action – activate your Barclaycard today” (with original set of trailing digits listed in the email body).

I have complete faith that my new card will arrive when I was told it would… honest.

Had the following response after DM-ing them on Twitter:

I’m so sorry about the delays, we have just received an update within in the last hour or so that they are a few delays. The delays are due to an issue with our card supplier. We’re looking into this and are arranging for the cards to be sent out to affected customers by courier. The card should be with you in the next few days.

Very interesting going through this thread and seeing all different kinds of statements and different levels of solutions offered across all channels.

I eventually got the £20 fees refunded to my Barclays Premier account within a few hours after complaining via the Barclays app chat.

Was two hours on the phone to Barclaycard earlier. It really is painful when the person who answers is a go- between and us to type questions to a third party to access your account! I got the £20 first month charge removed. However they were refusing to budge on the avios bonus extension – despite that when I finally receive my card it will be three weeks left since applying – almost a whole month. Tried to blame me for it being “lost in the post” despite them receiving the memo that the cards hadn’t been printed yet (hadn’t bothered to open that email they said!). Also said it was sent on 1st March when I didn’t even get approved until March 4th. Hoping I can get my free card after I hit the three month avios spend as don’t want to pay £20 for this shambles.

Debating whether to bother chasing yet…

Application successful email last Tuesday 11th.
PIN letter and statement email (with a £20 fee) received last Friday 11th.

Given the high wait times reported on the phone, assume best to wait a few more days to see if it appears in the post.
