Barclaycard Avios Plus holder – the ‘signing up for Barclays Premier’ thread

Just thought I would update that I went into the local branch and there was not a chance in hell they were helping me without an appointment, which is not available until January in any of the local branches they proffered. I did get a ‘sorry’ that I would be missing out on 100k points though…

On explaining the situation fully I was told it was ‘probably’ blocked on the suspicion of fraud 😬 so as far as I can tell my only recourse now is to get on the phone and instruct that I won’t be continuing with any application

Same issues as everyone here. But anyone know if we will be eligible for the 100k avios if we submit application before deadline, or must the application be approved before the deadline? If latter, unlikely to happen given how hopeless Barclays are!

For the card, the process is *designed* to take up to a month for an existing cardholder (because it’s linked to your billing cycle) – so they can’t possibly be requiring you to have the card in your hand by 30 Nov.

For the current account, Rob said somewhere above that Barclays have confirmed it will be OK if you have been asked for an ID check before 30 Nov. It would be strange if they didn’t take a similar approach to other failings.

I know I’ve slagged Barclays off a lot in this thread, but the Premier team do seem to want to help and do seem empowered to advocate for the customer (I got £75 compensation for inconvenience paid into my account while I was on the phone). So if you genuinely want the products, and do genuinely meet the eligibility criteria, I’d be optimistic they’ll sort it for you… eventually.

Hi, I have just been accepted for Barclaycard avios plus card this afternoon, do I wait for the card to arrive only proceed with the banking application?

or it is possible to sign up to premium account on the app to be eligible for the 100k pts before 30-Nov. Also, would be easier to sign up a regular account then upgrade to premium account as I read there about be issues with ID check signing up to premium account?

    Thanks

Hi, I have just been accepted for Barclaycard avios plus card this afternoon, do I wait for the card to arrive only proceed with the banking application?

You can go ahead with the banking application now. The only reason you’re advised to do the credit card first is in case you get turned down for the credit card (in which case you won’t get the 100K avois and might not want to go ahead with the current account). If you’ve been accepted for the credit card but just haven’t got it yet, that’s not an issue.

Also, would be easier to sign up a regular account then upgrade to premium account as I read there about be issues with ID check signing up to premium account?

I would advise not. The ID checks are likely to be exactly the same for the regular account. My suggestion would be just to make it as transparent and straightforward as you can, and then if anything goes wrong, your intentions were clear and I would say it is likely they will sort you out for the bonus – even if you missed the deadline (because of something that was their fault).

Based on my current understanding, if you get to the screen where the app is asking you about your income, then ID verification has succeeded. If after that point it tells you that ID verification has failed, then it’s wrong. In that case call the Premier line on 0800 085 1115 and specifically ask them to check whether you have an account open. And if you do, then ask them to deregister that account AND YOUR BARCLAYCARD from your phone, then give you an access code to register the app all over again.

If it all goes well, remember that you need to register for Avios Rewards by 30 Nov, not just open the account.

Barclays has confirmed to us that anyone who needs an ID check will still get the bonus if the ID check was requested pre 30th November.

I assume you need the ID check complete before you can turn on Avios Rewards?

Do you know if therefore customers that couldn’t turn on Avios Rewards will receive the bonus? Either because of an ID check or AV006 error.

Thank you R76 kindly for your responses! Just an update, I managed to pass the ID check and opened the premier banking through the app, as well as activated the Avios rewards as well!

They will be setting up a dedicated query line for people who believe they haven’t got a bonus they felt they deserved.

Irrespective of how you may interpret the Premier rules, you’re not getting the 100k until you do a full CASS switch and earn £75k or put £100k into a savings account, unless you’re upgrading from a standard account.

I upgraded from a standard account so hopefully I’ll be ok.

I’ve now had the email confirming the 100,000 Avios.

I got an email confirming I joined Barclays Avios rewards but no mention of the 100k bonus, does this come in a separate email later? Email just listed out the rest of the benefits of the avios rewards. Any advice if I need to do anything to secure the bonus. My route was apply for a regular bank account then upgrade to premier, and switch on avios rewards. Possibility I may have an additional bank account (like others seem to have experienced) I am unaware about as I may have inadvertently applied twice on the app. Could this be an impediment to the bonus? Appreciate any advice

Yes, reports here suggest it may come a fair while later. I wouldn’t worry that you haven’t had it yet.

My route was apply for a regular bank account then upgrade to premier, and switch on avios rewards.

And you already had an Avios Plus credit card, yes? If so then you’ve done all the things the T&C’s say you need to do to get the 100K bonus.

According to Rob in an earlier comment you will also have to switch an existing current account from another bank, but that really isn’t what either the T&C’s or their website says… You probably want to do it anyway because you will get an extra 25K bonus if you do, but you have three months from when you activated Avios Rewards. Personally I’m not going to kick that off until I’ve received my debit card for the Premier account.

I’ve had it confirmed directly from Barclays that you’re allowed to have two Premier current accounts – in fact they were trying to convince me that I might want to! – so I don’t see any reason at all why it would impact the bonus. You could call them on 0800 085 1115 though and they’ll easily be able to tell you whether you have opened two or not, and close the one you don’t want if you have.

I think the technical solution is to uninstall the Barclays app, get an activation code from Premier support, and use that to re-setup the app.

This was the key! Huge thanks to @robato.

Yay! Glad that helped. The app equivalent of ‘have you tried turning it off and on again’.

I still can’t believe how such a big bank still can’t get the basics right. I work for an even bigger bank so know what it’s like to make changes but it’s as if Barclays is not even trying.

Yes I was very close to closing the avios plus card but won’t for the time being. The assistant in the branch was able to link the avios plus card to my bank account when I had to do the ID check but no idea if she could see the other possible accounts I might have accidentally set up.

I initiated the switch from a bank account which I didn’t really use anymore so not a huge issue if I haven’t got the card yet. Haha wonder if they would give you 2x100k bonuses for two accounts, I suspect not!

    Thanks for all this

Do you have to swtich if upgrading from the standard current account?

    VALittleRed

Do you have to swtich if upgrading from the standard current account?

No one seems to know, but reading comments on recent post today, Rob seems adamant you need to do the switch to get the 100k bonus but nowhere does T&C state this, all been really poorly executed by Barclays.
Might be best to do a switch if you want to play it safe to secure the bonus?

For anyone who has signed up to the premier acct recently online, how do you activate avios rewards on the premier acct when you dont have the debit card yet?

I cant access the app as I have no activation code (premier acct was opened online) or debit card and cant login online as it wants to use the app to verify?

Do you have to swtich if upgrading from the standard current account?

I’ve upgraded an existing Barclay’s (non-Premier) account and an old Cashback credit card.

I’ve had an email confirming I will get the 100k, and I haven’t CASS’d (nor was I asked to at any point – the CASS bonus appears to only be for new customers?).

Call 0800 085 1115, explain your situation and they can give you an activation code for the app over the phone.

OK – I left it late to do this but I think I’ve had a bit more luck that most on here but want to check that I’m not being unduly concerned pls can anyone confirm whether I need to do anything?

    – I had a barclays bank account already – basic version.
    – I had not held a barclaycard for years
    – I applied for and was accepted for the Avios Plus credit card on Sunday (27th Nov). I received an email yesterday confirming my credit limit but as yet no CC account has appeared on my Barclays app
    – I upgraded my current account to a premier account this evening. This seems to have worked fine and my account is showing as a premier account
    – I activated Barclays Avios Rewards tonight. I had an existing Barclays Blue Rewards account which I was told i had to empty into my current account. The linking of my Barclays account to my Avios account clearly worked – I can see my Avious balance in the Barclays app. But I can also see the Barclays Blue Rewards balance – I assumed this would automatically transfer to my current account as i’d given permissino for that to happen as part of the signup process. As of now, the Barclays Avios Saver is showing I have collected zero Avios via Barclays. I was hoping this would show 2,500 being the signup bonus.

So after all of this in the app I can see:
    – no credit card account
    – a premier bank account
    – a Barclays Avios Saver account with no avios collected from Barclays
    – a Barclays Blue Rewards Saver account that still has a significant balance in it.

Am I still on track or do I need to do anything else?! Any advice welcome. Thanks

Sorry if this has been answered already.

To get the 100k bonus as a Barclays Avios plus holder.

I just got the premier acc and signed up for the avios rewards. Do I need to do the full switch? Or is it enough I get my paycheck paid into the account?

My understanding is that the above is enough. You’ll get an extra 25k by doing a full switch.
I’ve set up a new bank account with starling with a couple of direct debits attached to get the extra points…..

Silly question, but where do you do the acct switch from? Normally with switches it’s been done as part of the new acct process, where do you do it it from when the premier acct has already been opened?

Also, do you need to have any direct debits on any of the accts to qualify for any of the bonuses?

Yes a switch can take place after the creation of the account

You can do it in the Barclays app. Just go to “Products”, scroll down to “Our Services” and you will see “Switch Current Account”.

As for the Direct Debits, it does not mention them on the site, so possibly not necessary:
“To qualify for the 25,000 Avios joining bonus, you’ll need to join Barclays Avios Rewards – within 4 months of opening your first Barclays current account. Then, you’ll need to complete a full switch of your old current account to us, using the Current Account Switch Service – within 3 months of joining Barclays Avios Rewards. You will then receive your joining bonus in the fourth month of Barclays Avios Rewards membership”

Does anyone know when the first £12 payment is taken out of the premier account for the avios rewards? I have no idea?

    Much appreciated.

Hi, I don’t know why I left it this late but life seemed to get in the way.
Being new to Barclays and Barclaycard i applied on Saturday for the credit card using this thread (https://www.headforpoints.com/2022/10/03/100000-avios-for-barclays-premier-and-credit-card/).
I’ve been accepted for the credit card although it hasn’t arrived yet.
To open the current account the website says “The quickest way to open a sole Premier Current Account is to download the Barclays app from your app store and open it to start your application. If we accept your application, you can start using your account in the app straight away.”
However i’ve not got an activation code and my credit card and PIN haven’t yet arrived so i’m unable to progress any further on the app.
Am i missing something & apologies if this has been answered elsewhere?
    Thanks all
