Can someone confirm that at the moment the cancellation for a short-haul reward flight is still charged at £1?
I remember reading somewhere that this was a side effect of the introduction of the new RFS pricing some time ago.
If you cancel online then most likely. Click cancel and it will tell you. I cancelled a one way this morning and it was 50p
This is a classic example of what could be in a dedicated FAQ section! There are so many things you can actually try for yourself and find out without having to start a new thread.
Thanks Joecooljoe. I don’t have any reward bookings at the moment I can use for testing and as I want to choose a higher cash portion, I want to be sure I can still cancel for £1. If not, I’d choose a lower cash amount.
NorthernLass, sorry for the nuance I’ve created in your day.
Nothing wrong with the odd nuance! The FAQ issue has been mooted previously so I’m mentally collecting examples.
As it happens I need to look into this, so I’ll post my findings. It does sometimes depend on what kind of booking you’ve made, but IIRC it was short haul bookings made with companion vouchers which still charged £35pp, so this may not be an issue.
Ok – so on a normal avios booking with no voucher involved, it’s 50p per sector to cancel. On an avios booking which is the return leg of a 241 booking (outbound flown last April), I was getting the “You hereby agree to the refund we calculate” prior to confirming the cancellation. This usually means they will charge you the full £35. So nothing seems to have changed recently!

A friend of mine recently cancelled a SH booking using a companion voucher, and still only charged £1pp (they paid the £35pp cash plus avios option).
Edit: This was around 5 days ago I think
