    Hi all
I’m very familiar with airline status and getting avois but the hotel world is new to me!

I’ve just been gifted Gold Elite status through work / what tips and advice do you have to maximise this? Any else i should know or read to get the best out of this status?

    Thanks

If I was comparing to airline status then I’d say Bonvoy Gold is roughly BA Bronze. You need to be Platinum to get any meaningful benefits or better treatment. The talk of upgrades subject to availability is meaningless in my experience & late checkout very much only if it causes the hotel absolutely no inconvenience. Sorry!

In a nutshell, if I could get a 10% rebate through hotels.com or Expedia etc I’d take that over booking directly with Bonvoy Gold unless I was confident I was on track to get to Platinum/Titanium.

Agree, you don’t get much unless you’re staying somewhere Bonvoy elites are rare – I’ve had upgrades in a couple of northern English properties and also for an upcoming trip to Malaga.

In America we were treated pretty much with contempt at the 2 Marriott properties we stayed at over last Xmas/New Year!

Gold does grant you the ability to book a points stay on a 5 nights for price of 4 basis. Beyond that, Gold is not worth writing about.

Definitely not my experience, you do get mild upgrades and some freebies such as room credit from time to time. I wouldn’t call it useless for sure. However it’s definitely not as good as Hilton gold as no free breakfast and many redemption bookings don’t include breakfast.
