-
I’m trying to book flights to Japan for Nov 2025. I can get to booking page 3/5 online before it says sorry technical error try again later
I phoned and their accounts dept tells me my account is “locked” but that it’ll be sorted in 48 hours. I’ve phoned every other day since Nov 27th. Today the lady informed me it’ll now take 7-14 days to sort and they cannot book my flight in the meantime. She says maybe it’s related to my account having not been used recently (it expires if no action in 3 years) – I travelled in July on an avios flight so this is rubbish.
I am getting nowhere with them. They refuse to let me speak to a manager. I have 66k points in my account and they are entirely inaccessible. No one can tell me why nor if I will ever have access again to them
Has this ever happened to anyone? I logged a complaint to BA via their website but obviously haven’t heard anything back. I’m fed up, feel entirely powerless and I know BA are not doing anything to try and sort this but they are just lying!
Thanks in advance!

Sorry – it sounds like a real pain.
Sadly when this happens the fraud team take over and no matter how many times you try speaking to customer service there’s nothing they can do. You just have to wait for the fraud team to conduct their investigation.
I’m guessing you’re trying to book cash flights as 66k Avios isn’t anywhere near enough to be booking J reward flights to Japan. In which case just try booking flights as a guest ie without entering your BAEC account details. You can add your BAEC number after you’ve booked the flights.
I’m wondering if OP is trying to use avios to reduce the cash cost, in which case maybe it’s a blessing in disguise that the account is locked as that’s generally a terrible use of avios!
Or trying to book economy 🤷♀️
Anyway, yes it’s a pain and several readers have had to wait weeks or months for the same situation to be resolved.
