Help Planning Southeast Asian Trip

Afternoon Everyone,

I currently have 156,000 avios and my GF and I are looking to plan a one month trip to South East Asian, taking in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and possibly Laos (if time allows). I have been a subscriber to HfP for two years and I am aware of the multi-partner chart to redeem Avios on multiple oneworld airlines and open jaw avios redemptions, to allow me to fly into Hanoi and fly back to London from Bangkok.

When using the flight reward search tool, I am quoted 75,000 + £430.58 from LHR (stopping at Doha) to Hanoi via Qatar Airways on both legs and then Bangkok (stopping at Doha) to LHR as 90,000 + £203.48. I wondered if anyone here has any advice on how to maybe get this cheaper going via another oneworld alliance partner like Finnair as that would bring in the multi-partner chart(?) or via another route as well.

I would appreciate any advice and tips! We don’t have a 2-4-1 AMEX voucher for this holiday which is unfortunate!

If you could get yourself to 250k Avios you could do Helsinki with Finnair to Bangkok on business for both, return from Singapore/Phuket for a measly £100 taxes/fees pp. Maybe you could boost the Avios? Those you quoted are economy I presume?

If so then you would then be best saving the Avios and booking eco in cash in that case. Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia internal flights can be had for pittance with the likes of Air Asia. The sleeper train up the spine of Thailand is beautiful and recommended, we got it from Hat Yai to BKK.
