Advice please for a gold member who has encountered a couple of issues in house in a hotel in south east Asia

I’m not going to name the hotel , however when staying in a Marriott hotel in Thailand (I’m currently a guest for another 5 nights)

There has been bed bugs in the bed and a couple of house keeping issues with the room not exactly being clean. We have not fussed or demanded anything , we just asked for a change of room (same room type) room was paid for directly with Marriott

    Staff very helpful and sorry

Now do I ask for any comp or should they offer anything ?

Yes but do it in a way that no one loses face. Very important in Thailand. I would focus on the bed bugs and not the housekeeping shortcomings.

Getting visibly angry in Thailand won’t get you anywhere and can in fact be detrimental to your remaining time at the property. Sounds like you have this one covered already though.

Be direct about your expectation for the resolution (points/money refund etc) and acknowledge / thank them for any small service touches they may have made as recompense so far – fruit in room / change of room etc might not seem like an appropriate or proportionate recompense but acknowledging it anyway helps save face.

    Keep smiling.

Agreed. A blogger had been arrested for posting negative reviews while staying in the hotel.
