    Hi

I have a redemption for July back from KUL. Does anyone have a feeling on whether or not these might be postponed again?

Only reason I ask is I need a regional connection to KUL. If I buy this and subsequently BA cancel (say reroute to SIN) can I claim for a refund for my local KUL flights? I’m gonna assume not. I can hang on longer as regional flights are cheap but trying to get a feeling for what might happen and my options. If they did postpone, I’d likely rather fly from SIN and fly directly there from my regional connection.

If the connections are a separate booking, BA will not help you.

Only cover for that would be suitable travel insurance.

I’ve got a couple of flights to/from Kuala Lumpur in summer and autumn 2025.
To get me to my actual destinations, I booked fully flex domestic Malaysia Airlines flights. They weren’t hugely more expensive than the non-refundable versions.
With an added bonus that MAS will through check luggage via BA or any other One World airline.
If the route drops from the summer schedule, I believe BA will rebook onto MAS or Qatar, both of whom qualify for the luggage through check.
The inbound MAS international overnight MH2 flight is only a few minutes later than BA anyway so no disruption to your MAS domestic connection really.

TL;DR – book fully flex domestic connections with MAS.

+1 for MH flex for domestic/regional, especially if you think you might need the extra luggage allowance and/or value the free seat selection, priority check-in or priority boarding. We paid an extra £12.50 one-way for a domestic from KUL to PEN over the basic fare. It also gives you 10% off your next booking via a code that is issued immediately after booking (and bearing in mind they are fully refundable, I’ll leave it to to your imagination as to how that can be abused…)

Thanks all. We’re flying back from DPS and you’re totally right, MH flex is not much more but it is 3x what Air Asia is.

I wonder if BA would re route us QR as we’re flying to MAN if it came to it. All I’ve seen so far is MH or CX.

Consider whether you need checked luggage and carry-on allowances when comparing prices, plus seat selection etc if you’re likely to pay for it. MH prices are generally quite reasonable – perhaps not as much as Air Asia, but certainly cheaper than you’d expect to pay in Europe (though the pricing in MYR makes it look a lot more expensive than it really is!).

No guarantee that BA would reroute you on QR if it came to it. Some people did get a QR reroute on cash fares (and maybe some redemptions if people were lucky enough to get an agent who would do it), but the only reason we were able to reroute our CW KUL redemption via DOH was that there were a couple of redemption seats available (with the first leg on BA). The policy for the flights cancelled to date was, and I believe still is MH direct to/from LHR, BA/MH via SIN or BKK or BA/CX via HKG with the CX leg in economy only and several blackout dates.

MH does offer a direct LHR service which is not much different in timing to the BA flight.

That said, policies for other cancellations have included QR so it’s not impossible. However if they did it would almost certainly be from KUL only so you’d still have to get there.

Does air Asia offer a fare with cancellation option? If it’s not too expensive, I’ll pay for it.

I understand where you come from, as I am on the same route in August and changing at SIN is easy and the airport is nice but if the BA flight from KUL is cancelled, I’d choose MH to avoid disruption. The MH flight departs 40 mins after the BA. Sometimes it’s better to not change too many things in the itinerary.
