Hi All
I am silver and will take my outbound flight 26th March (Iberia booked through BA actually).
My return flight (BA) is 4th April and this would surely make me Gold if calculated with rules pre-1st April.
Considering I have already booked the whole trip is there a way BA would calculate the return with the pre-1st April, essentially extending my collection period of few days?
Any experience on this? Shall I call them and beg?!
Thanks!
It sounds like BA’s intention to implement the new system from April 1st is pretty much set in stone. You’ll get TPs based on the new conversion method applying to travel already booked.
I don’t know if there’s any scope to retain the old 2 week grace period under the old system?
Thanks..also looking at the app seems they have already calculated the WHOLE trip with the new Tier points system..essentially completely disregarding my first leg (actually 2 as there is a stop over) all well before 1st April…weird isn’t?
Apologies, I amended my post as I wanted to check back over Rob’s original article from Dec 30th, don’t know if you’ve read it?
Some discussion there and in subsequent pieces about how TPs will be allocated.
I think you can only ask after the event but should expect a negative response. The change to the tier earning years has been well publicised and 31 March 2025 is the last day of the old variable year end dates and the shortened transition year. Plus the new spend based tier point earning kicks in on 1 April 2025.
Also bear in mind the TP from the Iberia flight on 26 March may not post in a timely manner. There is a thread over on FlyerTalk about this as despite IB and BA being part of IAG they have entirely separate IT systems and Iberia flights are notoriously slow to credit.
How many TP short of Gold are you if you completely exclude this upcoming trip? And assuming the outbound posts how many are you expecting from the return flight? I would be inclined to do a tier point run before your 26 March trip.
Hi thanks! Unfortunately too short! Without this round trip missing 300. The outbound will give me 180 (combined) and the inbound 160…I remember one year I got BA to exntend of few days the collection period so to account for the return leg..probably good old days when they were listening Clients
As far as I am aware, the 2 week grace period was for retaining status, not achieving a new one. I have a friend who was only 90 points away from getting gold last year and had a trip 2 days after the end of collection year which would have given her 140 points. She tried getting the 2 week extension and was given a firm no.

Just for accuracy they never extended your collection year end date – it would always remained (until the change) the 8th of the money but they did credit back flights to the old year taken within 14 days.
But as mentioned whether they would do this now is an unknown as no one is in the position to ask yet.
They would do it to gain status as well as retain, but it has never been a published benefit. I’m very doubtful that it will be available this year.
I certainly can’t see them doing it for 1) a flight booked after Dec 30th which has only ever been eligible under the new TP regime.
In principle it would be logical enough for 2) a flight booked before Dec 30th because the original TP figure will be on the booking in the background somewhere.
However I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they also decline 2) because of 1).
