Strange, I spend £20/25k per year and have had a 50k retention bonus every year.

Is this from chat or calling up, wondering if I would have more luck if i called…?

On both occasions, this was from chat.

FWIW, I contacted AmEx through their chat app today and had aa 35k points offer “available to my account” – so I’ve taken that. Will try again in a year… 😉

£21k through the account YTD in 2024, and having used HN and Dining for the year, told “no offer available on my account” – all agent could do was recite the benefits from the website, despite my pointing out that Insurance has limited use for me and I had used HN and Dining already. Agent promised me that they would be renewed for 2025… Not sure if I want to take the gamble as without them the card really doesn’t add up for me.

Upgrade to platinum card and found the 40.000 avios welcome bonus plus additional 10.000 amex refused to honor this saying the offer was 40.000 lucky we had the offer screenshoted suddenly it was found 😀

My year end is in 2 weeks so went on chat to question any retention bonus. Told all i could do is downgrade. I did manage to get 35k last year but can’t remember the exact date. Will leave it closer to the end, but can people confirm there is still pro-rata fee return if you cancel? I thought I had read that they were removing this.
We have 2 holidays in October that it would be ideal to have the insurance for, but without a retention bonus I would cancel

Was offered 50k by calling customer service, been a week now and it still didn’t appear in my account. Does it usually take this long?

Yes, you still get a pro-rate refund for a while longer. Not sure when this will change

Fee hit yesterday and contacted customer services by chat. Was only offered free downgrade which I took. I don’t put a huge amount of £ through it, rather I put it through the BAPP.

Strictly enforcing the 365 day rule for retention offers. Told me the exact date to come back for a chat.

Now concerned if amex will refresh and stop retentions before that. Rob has even hinted at two big announcements this month.

The wait was worth it. 50k offered and accepted.

I phoned last week (week before renewal) and said I wasn’t gettting value for money from the card. Agent offered 75,000 without any further pushing which I accepted..

    Only 35k today.
Livid because the 2 trainees who work for me both got 50k a few minutes later.

50k offered to me straight away. Better than the 35k I got last year. I barely put any spend through my platinum card so I really don’t understand what criteria they use for offers.

I was wondering the same thing. No rhyme or reason.

    @StanTheMan
, you can’t speak about your superiors like that.

Nothing showing up on my account frustratingly. Not even the option to downgrade. I haven’t had a rentention offer in the last 12 months either.

Prior to that, i’ve had 50k, 75k, and 50k. My card anniversary is on 2nd October. Will call a few days after that and see if anything available.

35k offered without question, about 368 days after my last, with hardly any spends put through the card in that time other than dining, HN and using other offers.

50K for P2. Very happy with that. Need to try myself before the fee is due soon (to maximise the 365days rule)

35k every 13th month for the last five years, all by chat.

35k offered to P2. Had upgraded from Gold to Platinum just earlier this month but put £6k through the card already. (Had had Gold for ~10 months).

Keeping the card feels even less attractive now though.

Tried my luck today on the chat and got none. The CS rep told me I was given one in Feb but I couldn’t remember!

Today marks a year and a day since my last retention bonus (saved in the calendar!) and I was offered 35k.

I said I’d think about it. My membership renews in April, so I’m torn between accepting 35k and restarting the clock, or waiting until later in the year after more spend has gone through to see if a higher offer later becomes available.

What if they do away with retention bonuses in the meantime? They aren’t a published benefit
