Are retention offers given on the Business Plat card?

I’ve tried a couple of times with no luck at of yet.

Just tried an online chat session at the end of my first year of personal Platinum, explained I was thinking of cancelling as I wasn’t getting full benefit (haven’t managed to use dine abroad this year, local airport lounge is often not open to PP). First offer was 50,000 points credited now with no strings. Accepted. Decent offer as I have used most other benefits.

Will see fairly soon whether the second tranche of 25,000 points from last year’s 100,000 points joining offer still credits at the start of the second year…

1 year since last retention offer, but no dice. Only being offered downgrades. Perhaps it’s because I put most my spend on my BAPP?

Same for me. Chatted today and was only offered downgrade to Gold, no retention offer was available. Renewal fee has just hit my account. I’ve had retention offers for previous several years. They must be cracking down on low value customers. For context, most of my spend goes on BA Amex with minimal spend (less than £1k) on the Platinum. I will seriously consider downgrade now.

Im not sure its just low value customers…. ive put through almost 200k since being a customer and ive only been offered £55 once!

I suspect that’s a business Platinum card, as that offer seems consistent with the retention offers on that card. The personal card is where the generous offers are.

Morning. Did I read some readers had been able to get Amex to apply the annual fee in monthly chunks rather than one lump sum? Thanks

    Yes you can pay monthly

I just received my new Platinum card. I’ve had BAPP for many years. I asked on chat support and then called requesting for Platinum annual fee of £650 to be paid via monthly installments. They said no both times and told me it is just not an option. Could it be because I am a new Platinum customer? My first statement would be 5 Jan and the full membership fee would be charged in that statement. If anyone else had luck with this please let me know! Thanks

It’s offered as a retention offer for some people. I think most people get 35K or 50K points.

Got 50k, same as last year.

I think I’m 11 months since my last, do I wait or try again now?

Hi Nachmon9. If you don’t mind, could you give me some idea of spend you put through on your card. I didn’t get a retention offer earlier this week, but have very minimal spend on Platinum.

£30K this year. When was the last time you received a retention offer?

This time last year just after renewal fee hit my account.

50k offer out of the gate. Had card for almost 1.5 years after upgrading from Gold originally after 6 months. Approaching second anniversary. Never had a retention offer before. Was thinking of closing anyway due to changing travel patterns, but 50k swings the balance. Have been using the Platinum as main card with moderate spend for last 6-8 months.

First year with Platinum, have 2 months left before renewal, asked for cancellation today and was offered 50k to keep the card active. Probably spent £25k on the card in the past 10 months.

Just been offered 50k to keep card active, signed up with friend referral for 100k points in early november and have spent about 6/10k in the two months since.

Has anyone else lost the ‘New’ filter on the offers list?

I’m sure there are several new offers, but can no longer filter the list to show only new ones. It’s the same on all my cards.

Same here – I just assumed there hasn’t been anything new in a while

P2 just signed up for Plat so considering dropping mine, although as I had 50k retention offer on 31st Jan last year should I consider holding off until early Feb when I may be able to wangle another retention offer?

FYI – Membership year runs June-June

Yep, if you don’t mind paying another month’s fees.

50k given today on a card upgraded in November. Will likely keep until an Easter trip now.

Roughly how much spend has been put through since upgrading?
