IHG Rewards Club – the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group – is launching its new promotion on Monday.  It will run from September 1st to December 31st.

“The Big Win” will offer a different set of deals to every member, so it is difficult to write in too much detail at the moment.  However, every member will be offered at least 50,000 bonus points or 10,000 airline miles.

IHG Rewards Club

The registration website went live early for a period on Friday but then seems to have disappeared again – the official launch date is Monday.

However, View From The Wing was able to register on Friday.  Gary got offered the following:

  • Try one and done – 1000 points for my first stay
  • Stay more and earn more  – 7400 points for 7 nights
  • Explore our brands – 12000 points for staying at 2 brands
  • Book with us – 2400 points for making 2 bookings through an IHG website or mobile device
  • Survey the win – 100 points for taking a survey
  • Live the city life – 8400 points for 3 stays at participating hotels in Sao Paolo, Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC, and Mexico City
  • Win in a weekend – 4800 points for 2 Saturday night stays
  • Win big – 38000 more points for completing all of the above

If you assume that you got the same – which you won’t – you could pick up the grand total of 71,000 bonus points for staying 7 nights.  However, these seven nights would need to include two different brands, include 3 hotels at the cities featured, and include 2 Saturday nights!

There MAY be an opportunity to ‘mattress run’ here.  This is especially true of the dead period between Christmas and New Year, when you can often pick up a hotel room for peanuts.

It is also not clear if reward nights will count towards the total, given that you now earn elite stay credit on reward nights.  If they did, you could book some PointBreaks nights at 5,000 points and use those to qualify for the bonus!

I will see what I get when the IHG website kicks back into life, and then decide if this is a game worth playing.  My confirmed IHG bookings between now and 31st December are a grand total of 1 night, on a Friday ….

Thanks Alan and Sir Stamford, got it now. Really handy having people around who know what they’re doing!

A quick follow up, I registered this morning but all the stays I need for it were booked last month, will they still qualify? The first stay is 30/9 so that works just don’t know if I had to book after the 1/9?

    • Alan says:

My reading of things (and based on how these promos normally work) would be that for most of the bonuses any eligible stays within the 1/9-31/12 period would be fine. However for the online booking one (and thus to achieve the overall one) I’m suspicious that they will need to be made within the promotion period to count. We’ll only know a few weeks into the period when folk start to post back – it looks like that landing page should display progress as to how each member is getting on with achieving their goals.

Overall although it’s frustrating that some offers are better than others I can see the logic in what they’re trying to do and it has already made me considering switching one or two stays across to them, so it’s having the desired effect!!

      • David L says:

I’m hoping that too – I booked one hotel on an advance purchase rate, which contributes towards 5 out of 7 of my challenges. Booked it last week for a stay in mid-September so fingers crossed it will count. For bookings that were on cancellable rates, I just rebooked them just to make sure.

        • Alan says:

Best to rebook them after next Sunday given that’s the start of the promo period, David 😉

          • David L says:

Ah thanks good spot Alan. Someone at IHG HQ is probably wondering what on earth I’m doing rebooking the same reservation 🙂

  • Bruceylegs says:

Hi, does anyone know if Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express are counted as two distinct IHG Brands?

I’m planning my stays at “3 Different IHG Brands” for 10,000 points.

    • Alan says:

They definitely should do – if you look further down the page they have different ‘badges’ for staying at each one. There’s unfortunately nothing more definitive than that, but given how they position the brands separately I’d think they’d be OK to count separately (that’s certainly my plan!!)

    • Rob says:

      Yes, that is definitely OK

  • olybeast says:

I didn’t get the city life one and more stays is 4 nights. So it’s 2 Saturdays, 3 brands, 4 nights for me. I’m on it

  • Eric OMara says:

Are these bonus points in ADDITION to the other bonus you wrote about in July
    ie
    Extra 2000 points per night
    https://headforpoints.com/2013/07/20/2000-bonus-ihg-rewards-club-points-for-next-4-stays/
    and
Extra 10 000 points for 1 night stay at HIX

  • xcalx says:

Mrs xcalx received the following offer

Stay at any IHG® hotel and receive 1,000 Points.
Stay a total of 4 nights and receive 6,400 Points
Stay at 2 different IHG brands and receive 20,000 Points

Complete all of your offers and receive 52,000 Points

Will these points stack along with all the other generous IHG point offers

    • Alan says:

Can’t see any reason they won’t stack, however lots of the existing offers are coming to an end on 31/8/13 and my guess would be that there’s likely to be little by way of new offers to come along and replace them given this promo.

    • Rob says:

Yes, they will stack with all the new member bonus codes etc I posted recently.

  • M says:

Would booking for someone else work?

    • Rob says:

Yes, that is not normally an issue. The way to do it is to book for 2 people and add the name of the other person as ‘Additional Guest’ during the booking process, and in the comments put “Mr X will check in first”

      • Andrew says:

Great – have just set up an account for the wife but as I travel more often i was hoping to do a couple of the stays when I’m away with work

  • Thunderbirds says:

IHG IT systems strike again..? No book with us offer. Duplicates for some of the other offers and a total of 172,000 points. Who knows?
