How to buy Hilton Gold status for just $49!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Here is an interesting offer if you are interested in getting Hilton HHonors Gold status.

Hilton Gold is generally seen as the best of the mid-tier hotel statuses, because it offers three genuinely useful benefits:

Free breakfast (except at Waldorf-Astoria)

Free internet

A (pretty much guaranteed) upgrade

Hilton Gold

Hilton is currently offering a free trial of Gold until Christmas in various targetted promotions, but if you didn’t receive those then you can’t take part. In which case, this offer may work instead.

Online travel forum Milepoint (a very-much smaller version of Flyertalk) is currently offering Hilton Gold as a benefit if you sign up for their Premium membership package. This costs $49.

There are offer benefits included as well (National car rental status, 1000 United Airlines miles) but it is the Hilton Gold card which will attract most attention.

The link to the Milepoint subscription page is here (deleted as now dead). Hilton Gold will run until February 2015 so you actually get 16 months of status for your $49. This is a pretty good deal and would pay for itself in just one Hilton stay, assuming two people both got free breakfast.

I used my Hilton Gold this year at the MAD Hilton. Despite it being a booking made using Avios we as expected got upgraded, given lounge access and were entitled to a full breakfast in the restaurant. So it’s definitely worth having at this price as long as they don’t change the benefits.
Also got 4,500 points for the one night stay which was I suspect a mistake.

  • flibbly says:

Interesting. Its very rare I stay at a Hilton property – however I do have a couple of thousand points on the verge of expiring. Is this offer valid for existing members, and what are the chances of it extending the life of those points do you think?

    • Rob says:

Valid for existing members but I don’t think (but could be wrong) that being Gold protects your points.

I only value Hilton at £3 per 1000 these days anyway, so a couple of thousand expiring would not worry me.

      • flibbly says:

Agreed – they’re of no great value, but it might just tip the scales and make me think it worthwhile (for the one or two nights a year I might stay in a Hilton)

    • World Traveller says:

Being Gold does not protect your points – you need to stay at least 1 night each year to keep your points from expiring.

  • Scott says:

    Thanks – great spot!

  • R Knight says:

Ive got diamond that runs out in March. Not using Hilton much atm, so will be silver after. Can I buy this now and get Gold til 2015, or do I need to wait till diamond runs out first?

    • Rob says:

No, it needs to be claimed by Feb or it expires – I saw that on the Milepoint site

  • Andrew W says:

I’ve got an award stay at Syon Park in December which this would be great to get breakfast for, but is cutting it fine for the 8-10 weeks suggested for the status to be applied. Anyone know if it actually takes this long?

    • Rob says:

Its not clear how the upgrade works – if its an online form then in theory it could be instant. You should have a dig around the Milepoint threads.

I did a review of Syon Park last year if you search!

      • Simon says:

Thanks for this Raffles, I did it this earlier today, I filled in the online form and the upgrade isn’t instant based on my Hilton account, will report back if the upgrade happens before comments are closed on the story.

        • Graham says:

          Hi Simon,

I’ve got a 4 day stay in a hilton in London on Saturday and was toying about signing up. Do let us know if it upgrades in a day or two please, if it does I’ll take the plunge!

          Thanks

          • Simon says:

My Hilton account got upgraded to Gold overnight, so it took less than a week in the end.

        • Rob says:

Thanks. Comments stay open for 2 weeks, if its later than that ping me an email.

  • kipto says:

I have the basis hhonors status would I still be eligible for the gold status if I paid the $49 ?

  • jb says:

if one signs up for this how long does the hilton gold status lasts for ? is it 12 months?

  • Chris Sutter says:

@kipto – It seems to be valid for existing members as far as I can tell.
@jb – The status lasts until the end of Q1 2015.

I went for it, too good to ignore. Have to say though, I had never heard of Milepoint and since this is obviously intended as a bit of a membership drive I had a quick read through their forums now that I am a “platinum member” (woop woop).

At least for the BA forum, all I can say is holy cr*p, the amount of aggression between posters and all the whinging on there makes FT look positively peaceful. Guess I won’t be back…
