Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Tesco adds Ticketmaster as a new Clubcard spending partner

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

Whilst most Head for Points readers use their Tesco Clubcard vouchers for Avios points or Virgin Flying Club miles, it is also worth keeping your eye out for other decent Clubcard deals.

As I wrote last year, I used a chunk of Clubcard vouchers to pay a big Safestore bill.  I got 3 x face value for my Clubcard tokens, and I would effectively have been ‘paying’ well over 1p per Avios had I used cash for Safestore instead.

Ticketmaster has just been added as new Clubcard deals partner.  At just 2 x face value, you are not going to get the same value that I did at Safestore.

However, it is worth looking at the maths.  A £10 Clubcard voucher gets you 2,400 Avios or £20 at Ticketmaster.  That means that you are effectively ‘paying’ (2000/2400=) 0.83p per Avios.  If you value Avios at more than 0.83p, you should continue converting.  If you don’t, then Ticketmaster would be an effective alternative.

redspottedhanky.com offers the same 2x face value deal for UK train tickets.  If you ever pay cash for a train ticket, instead of using Tesco vouchers which you would otherwise send to Avios, then you are also paying 0.83p per Avios.

  • Frenske says:

Note that you can buy Ticketmaster gift cards, £50 would give you 150 CC points plus supermarket spend. In my case I would get 460 Avios. By converting your CC points to TM you would loose out on an attractive earning potential.

  • Audrey says:

Are you not then able to click through to Ticketmaster from Avios and use your voucher to purchase the tickets and still claim Avios that way at a rate of 2 points for every £1?

  • Boon Koh says:

And also – are the Ticketmaster gift cards still available at 20% off at Tesco? Or did this end at the end of March?

    • World Traveller says:

That deal was a Mother’s day promotion and ended on Sunday 30th March.

  • Andy says:

Sorry for the off topic question but does anyone know how long it takes for Avios to appear in a BAEC account when converting from Tesco Clubcard vouchers?
