New Amex / Foursquare deals – cashback at Tesco, Zizzi, Pizza Express, Argos, Ask, Primark

American Express has launched some new Foursquare deals after a long hiatus.

This promotion offers you £5 statement credit when spend £10 at Tesco.  You will also receive £10 back when you spend £30 at Pizza Express, Primark, Zizzi, Ask and Argos.

You must register your British Airways, Lloyds Avios, Starwood Preferred Guest, Gold, Platinum, bmi, American Airlines, Emirates or indeed any other American Express card with Foursquare.

Unlike recent Amex cashback deals, this one does not seem to be available via the American Express website.  You need to register with Foursquare.  If you have never done this before then the instructions are below.

Supplementary cards count as separate cards (unless the supplementary cards have the same number as the main card, which often happens with MBNA) – so you may have more qualifying Amex cards than you think.

These deals are limited to between 5,000 and 15,000 cards.  I expect this target to be hit quickly given that you can register multiple cards.

Once registered, you have until 31st July to make the required spend on the card.  One trick from last time to remember is that Argos sells a lot of gift cards for other stores – this effectively makes the ‘save £10 on £30’ available at a lot of additional retailers!

You can register all of your Amex cards as long as you create a separate Foursquare account – with a separate email address – for each one.

How to sync your Amex card to your Foursquare card

If you are new to this sort of deal, this is how you sync your Amex card to your Foursquare card:

Download the Foursquare app onto your ipad, iphone, Android device or whatever you carry!  (A wi-fi only ipad or ipod touch will also work OK)

Sign up.  Make a careful note of the email address you use.  Ignore all the screens about linking your Facebook etc accounts.

Sync your MBNA, Lloyds or Amex-issued Amex card with the Foursquare account by going to this website.  You must use the same email address as in 1.

Go back to Foursquare and search for a random Tesco, Pizza Express etc.  Most stores will show the offer – if they don’t, search for another outlet.  You need to click on the text for the offer and you will see a special box flick up. Click ‘Load to Card’ and the offer is set up directly with Amex.

Repeat for each Amex card you have, with a new Foursquare account. It would be sensible to make a note of which Amex card and email address links to each account.

There is nothing to show in the shop when you make your purchases. The shop will never even know you are taking part in the promotion.

3-4 days after the relevant shop purchase hits your credit card, a cash credit will be placed on your Amex account.  For Amex-issued Amex cards, you should also receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of making your purchase.

Managed to quickly successfully sync all of my cards and supplementary on the iPad this morning, which is great as along with others had trouble loading the offers during the last 4S promo. It appears this time you don’t even need to check in although I have done so just to be safe.

Question: Some of my card have been replaced and numbers changed since originally synced; do I need to de-sync and re-register or are they still correctly linked at Amex’s end?

    • Dannyrado says:

Be careful. That’s what I thought with the ipad app.

I got fed up with it to be honest, and went to the website proper. Signed in and nothing was ‘loaded to card’. If you load to card on the website, you get a note saying loaded, and that you have unlocked the offer.

This is how I remember it working last time.

      • pazza2000 says:

No it seems to work fine on the iPad, albeit I think it was actually the mobile app on it anyway. Loaded to card and remembers it has been loaded to card when signing out and back in again.

Just wondering if I need to ‘de-sync’ & ‘re-register’ replaced cards?

    • flyoff says:

Pazza you do need to unsync the old and put the new details in

      • pazza2000 says:

I’ve just called Amex about it, they are saying otherwise (that the old and new are linked) although I’ll take that with a pinch of salt. Does seem odd that the expired cards would still be synced to 4S though if they were unable to partake.

        • flyoff says:

They have changed this since the last offer for Amex issued cards – sorry for misleading you. I just searched the FAQ which states: ” If your Card was issued by American Express: We will automatically update your replacement Card with your connect information. Any enrollments that are still available and not yet redeemed will be automatically transferred to your replacement Card. Call the number on the back of your Card with any questions.
If your Card was issued by a third-party bank licensed to issue American Express-branded cards: You will need to disconnect your old Card and then connect your replacement Card to your Foursquare account.”

          • pazza2000 says:

Excellent, thanks. Both cards were replaced recently so should hopefully the connect information should have safely carried across.

  • JK says:

I am getting nowhere with this. Sync, check in, offer, no add-to-card, unsync, try again. Round and round in circles. Foursquare worked ok before but seems to be badly broken now.

    • Ian says:

Try this process without checking in. When I checked in, the next page (the add to card page) wouldn’t load and would just stay blank.

Try going to the retailer page on 4S, don’t check in, just scroll straight to the offer, click it, then the add to card page should load.

  • flyoff says:

I had most cards already registered. The only cards which have not synced are the supplementary cards on my and mrs flyoff’s SPG. In both cases they say that the card is already synched when it has definitely not. The only promotion they have been used for was the shopsmall one and I did just use one email address for all of the offers that does not match this one. Anyone lese having issues?

    • Simon says:

I found it didn’t like it when I used exactly the same name for multiple registrations. The latest one I added dropped the n off my first name and then it worked!

    • Rob says:

I got this last night. Reason is that logging out does NOT log you put fully. Clear cookies or use a diff browser and it will register it ok.

  • Erico1875 says:

The obvious way to extract maximum value from pizza express would be to combine this with the likes of “Orange Wednesdays”

  • JK says:

The “load to card” functionality seems a bit new? In the past, I thought you always had to check-in to activate the special, but now you can pre-load the offer. I guess that’s quite handy! Although to do that for every single one of the stores I might be able to visit could take some time. 🙂

  • Oly says:

I seemed to have done it alright in the iphone app.
If you are on O2, prioirty moments is doing free prosecco and olives in Zizzi when you give them a code from the app as long as you buy 2 mains. This combined with the £10 from amex would make a nice night out at Zizzi 🙂

  • Niall says:

I stupidly added these offers without considering that it was an old amex linked to my account. Now unsynced old card and added new card. Managed to re add the deals by selecting different branches. Are you fixed to getting the offer only from the branch you selected?

  • Jay says:

I did not unsync my card. But, I am able to ‘add to card’ in the app. Is that enough ?
