SWISS special – book a £199 return flight to Zurich in Business Class

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

SWISS is offering a special business class fare of £199 between Heathrow and Zurich.  I will be flying this myself in two weeks so I will be able to report back on how it was, hopefully before the offer ends.

You need to book by 14th February for travel before 31st December 2018.

Your best option to maximise your miles when paying is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold.  This offers double points – 2 per £1 – when you when you book flight tickets directly with an airline.  Our review of Amex Gold is here.

If you visit this special page of the SWISS website you will see a calendar which shows at a glance which days are available at this price.  Availability looks very good to be honest.

Remember that SWISS uses Terminal 2 at Heathrow and you will be able to access the Lufthansa lounge – or, if you’re willing to walk over to the satellite terminal, the fantastic United Club lounge (or the less fantastic Singapore Airlines and Air Canada lounges).

Don’t get too excited on Swiss Business. We flew LHR > ZRH > PVG last week.

Business on the short hall was dire! Poor seats AKA BA with middle seat blocked and food was atrocious on both the short and long haul. The only decent thing is the duty free!

    • Wivus says:

Interesting as I did LHR>ZRH>BOM in November and they were excellent. EU part was basic seating as you say, but the food was very good indeed. Long haul they were very good indeed. Service was top notch as well as the food. Drinks could have arrived quicker but I say that about all airlines 🙂 . I presume, like most airways, they have their good days and bad days.

    • Leo says:

Most if not all intra -EU business seats are just economy with middle blocked. Nothing to do with BA per se.

    OT

Just had an email from amex offering me a companion platinum credit card to go alongside my charge card. 5,000 MR points for £500 spend in three months. Bit early to be thinking about small shop again but why not?!

    • mark2 says:

Hopefully, you have got time to cancel and re-apply by December.
But 10 MR per £ sounds good to me. I am about to upgrade my wife’s Gold to Plat; how long have you had the Platinum for?

      • Dominic says:

I don’t churn my platinum card but keep it for the benefits, so no worries on cancelling and re-applying.

        • Stu N says:

          Good spot, thanks for that!

5k MRs wasn’t mentioned in the email and I didn’t bother clicking through so would have missed this.

  • Jason says:

Amex platinum fee refund…is it in full if cancelled within the first 3 months? I normally cancel before it hits.

    Thanks

The Swiss £199 fare prices up at £209 through amex travel. If anyone has the £50 off for spending £200 and are struggling to use it, then it could be useful.

  • George says:

Bit disappointed that the Amex events are open to everyone. I incorrectly assumed that they’d be something like Platinum exclusive events for cardholders, but hey-ho. I’d have loved to tag along to the travel photography one, and I’m thinking that it’d make more sense for Amex to prioritise non-cardholders, especially if these are supposed to be marketing stints..

There were some cheap SA flights ex Dublin recently so may be worth checking.

On another note I booked LHR – MCT in PE upgraded to J then onward connections to BKK with QR in First and business. Dropped the PE flight costs by using some Avios. In total it priced out around £1100 and will get me 580 TPs and a bunch of Avios. Best will be access to the Al Safwa lounge in DOH on the return.

We’re shortly flying LHR-ZRH-JNB on the LX biz fare promoted by Rob last year.

Without thinking about it, I had assumed we’d be using the E gates non-Schengen to non-Schengen, but I guess there’s a risk that the LHR-ZRH will dock at B. E to E would seem to be simpler this time.

    • Roger I* says:

      Sorry, B should be A?

    • RussellH says:

      Switzerland is in Schengen!

      • KP says:

ZRH is in schengen but LHR and JNB are not so the flight will dock at a non-schengen gate and onward flignt will depart from a non-schengen gate too.

    • John says:

LHR-ZRH usually arrives at B or D, as you don’t need to go through security again. When you arrive into E, I think you get funneled directly into transit security (or Exit Zurich).

    OT: Nectar AmEx 30k bonus

I applied for the Nectar AmEx using the link in SP/HfP. My qualifying purchase for the 30k bonus posted on 28 December, 21 days ago. 20k posted quickly but still no sign of the 10k bonus.

Should I be calling/messaging somebody? Thanks.

    • Rob says:

Didn’t the rules say that Nectar would be posting the 2nd 10k, not Amex? I assume they post once Amex has confirmed your application to Nectar and paid Nectar their commission.

      • Lewis King says:

I tweeted Nectar and the points appeared quickly. My father in law had worse luck though – nectar got funny with him about not spending in each of the first 3 cycles… I don’t remember reading that in the T&Cs, nor do I understand why I got my points and he didn’t!

      • Roger I* says:

Yes, Rob, I think so, but it’s taking longer than I expected.
