  Best champagne offer I ever got was M&S clearing out Pol Roger 2009 vintage for £19 a bottle down from £75. Cleared the shelf of 6 bottles!

      Result. Had a bottle of the 2008 at the weekend which we found during the house move – it had got shoved into the back of a high kitchen cupboard and forgotten about! Honestly no idea where it came from – would have been a gift.

    I recently found a shelf listing Halves of Veuve Cliquot at EUR7.00, when the whole bottles alongside were EUR49.95. I rubbed my eyes, cleared shelf, then checked price at scanner, and that they were not piccolos. Happy Day. When I told a friend, she asked why I had not asked if there were more in the stock room. Because like an error fare, one does not want to introduce a human to the decision process.

  I’ve noticed that you can hit the 18 bottle free delivery requirement by adding beer to save yourself the £7.99. Hitting 24 bottles and a £120 min spend also gets you a bottle of “free” champagne. I plumped for a 10yr Ardbeg instead of champagne

  for those who are using the blue light code, does the total get adjusted on screen ? I put in my code and is says ‘voucher applied’ but no reduction in the total cost. but then I am using the Laithwaites code via the BA flyer site as that is the amex offer I have…..

    The BLC discount doesn’t always stack with other offers. If it does work then it happens as soon as you enter the code.

  Best value for Laithwaites is to sign up to a Wine Plan and cancel by email before the second case is due. Despite doing this three times in recent years, they keep inviting me to join again.

  12 bottles plus four wine tumblers for £65. Free delivery. Add a couple of extra bottles @ around £6 a bottle to take it over the £75 threshold, and you are looking at about £4 a bottle (after the £20 Amex discount).

  Wine Flyer offer is on BA cards. Laithwaites offer is on MR cards. Everything bills as Laithwaites.

  They have a number of wines on offer when you buy 12 or more mixed bottles. This works in combination with an introductory case. So for example you can add two bottles of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc for £6 a bottle to a £65 introductory wine plan case.

  I really like the tumblers. We now have 10 of them (we got six by mistake instead of four with our latest order).

    I remember the good old days (circa 2000) when you could get Krug & Dom in Costco for £45! They also used to sell do a very good promotion selling Bordeaux by the bottle in the month after the latest vintage landed in UK. I got a decent stash of ‘04 in 2006 (Leoville Las Cases & other 2nd growths) at £20-25/bottle. You’re looking at £100+ for them en primeur these days & being forced to buy by the case. Unfortunately they no longer offer the really good stuff & the quality of their everyday drinking (£10-15) has also nose dived.

    So in this deal your first would be 2 bottles for £85.97 less £20 back from Amex = £32.99 and you don’t need to move from your computer.

    Id love to know how anyone could legitimately claim back VAT on champagne for their personal use. Even as a business expense it would have to be very specific ie entertaining a group of your employees only. being a sole trader or a couple of directors doesn’t count unless you’re on a business trip away from home.

      I guess you could use the celebration allowance (hic!!) of .. what was it… £75 that used to be per employee per year for Christmas party. I’m sure it’s gone up now. But in these days of Zoom parties you could quite rightfully say you were forced to dole it out individually and people had to drink it individually…. job done completely tax free Even got the VAT back maybe? £75 (or whatever it is now for staff entertainment per year ) per employee. Just no Christmas party – but you weren’t obliged specifically to have that, that was just how many firms spent the allowance

        The allowance is so that the employee doesn’t have to pay benefit in kind, currently set at 150 per head per year. How many event you have a year is up to you.

        The company itself can spend and claim relief on more than £150 per head per year but all the employees would be liable to pay personal income tax on the benefit.

        Sending a bottle or any F&B items to an employee’s home wouldn’t count as entertaining and you can’t claim the tax back, the value also has to be below £50. If it was a branded tea cosy or sports bottle etc that would be fine for tax relief etc.

        Basically there’s no way you’re getting tax or vat back on expensive champagne bottles for consumption.

          Btw there is of course the genuine business use for example if your core business included reviewing / drinking champagne or some sort of luxury lifestyle influencer who wants to use a bottle in their next post etc. But I doubt you’d be VAT registered so it would just be tax relief.
